With something coming up during the week of Moab and still having the time off I figured it would be a good time for a local run! Our next trip will be Saturday April 26th. We will be running Gold Mountain which is a moderate trail with a few technical spots on the trail. UCP and rock rails are recommended. I will be prerunning the trail on friday the 25th so if you are unsure if your rig is suited for this trail I can let you know the day before since this trail changes quite a bit.

Time: At 9:30am sharp we will be leaving the Discovery Center to journey over to the trailhead. We plan on getting started on the trail by 10 after airing down at the trailhead. If you miss us at the Discovery Center head east on Hwy 38 which will turn into Hwy 18 to meet us at the trailhead. Expect a full day of trails so bring a lunch to eat while we wheel.

Meeting Spot: We will be meeting at the Big Bear Discovery Center on the North Shore of Big Bear Lake. The Discovery Center is located at 40971 North Shore Dr. (which is Hwy 38) in the town Fawnskin, which is just on the north side of Big Bear Lake across the water from the town of Big Bear.

Weather: Bring a warm clothing! If this trail run goes into darkness the temps drop quickly. So far the weather is calling for mid to upper 60s during the day and high 30s at night.

If taking Hwy 38: You will need to get to where the I-215 meets the I-10. From there, take the I-10 E and take the TENNESSEE STREET exit and turn LEFT, then go 0.4 mi and turn RIGHT on W LUGONIA AVE which is Hwy 38. Take this highway all the way to the back side of Big Bear. You will come to a stop sign where you will turn left onto E. Big Bear Blvd (Still Hwy 38). In Big Bear, turn right on Green Way Dr. (this is before the lake), which is the continuation of Hwy 38. Then turn left on North Shore Dr which is also Hwy 38. Go about 2 miles and the Discovery Center will be on the right. If you go into the town of Fawnskin, you have a gone a couple miles too far. If you miss Greenway Dr. and get deeper into Big Bear, you can turn right on Standfield Cutoff which takes you across Big Bear Lake. Then turn left and follow the above directions.

Communications: We will be on CB channel 37

Possible, like I said earlier, need to rearrange my schedule with work. Copy and paste worked great, but no breakfast?

I don't know Chris, do you think my truck can handle such a difficult trail? I'll try and make it. Might even invite a friend with a lifted Cherokee. It would be fun to tow stray him!

Lol, your good. That was intended for people who are without armor. In the past this trail didn't need armor but I spoke to Zach and he said this trail has gotten tougher. Armor might be a must now since this trail will change. You will be fine for this trail :) I'll put you guys as maybes

Last time I ran Gold Mountain we had more issues than any other trail I have been on. 3 punctured tires, three broken half shafts and one truck went down the mountain on a flatbed wrecker. It really isn't that bad of a trail but it exacted its revenge that day.

Don't forget how the day started. Damn "trail gnome" at the Discovery Center kicked it off :gaah:

Didn't forget him but couldn't remember if it was that trip. Not sure what that guy was on but it obviously was a mind bender.

I wasnt there for that day but Zach had quite the story to tell me when I asked how the day went. Anything can happen on any trail. What matters is that everyone gets off the trail safe and sound...leaving with a good story is nice too. :)

I checked some of the local forums and so far there are no big runs going on. A lot of people are probably recovering from EJS. Hopefully its a quiet day

I believe the forest troll was a previous trip, one that Seth lead. I remember because that was my first time on the Gold Mountain trail.

About half of the truck all big pieces...doors, hood and roof...it shouldn't be that hard since them all are flat and straight surface and there's no bare plastic that need primer and wait for it to cure...I might even use a electric sander to speed up the process instead of sanding by hand like I did with all the other pieces...but idk I like more sanding by hand makes me feel like I have more control of the end result...

One of those close by trails (sorta) I haven't been able to cross off my list yet! We almost got to do it when Serge did JB gatekeeper in the truck!

Mike

Yeah, but someone decided to call the run after a backwards slide like it wasn't going to stop other than off the trail. Not naming names. Oh ****! I did it! And besides, we would have run it backwards. Way too easy.
