I'm on spring break this week and got bored. Here's a little taste of what I've been up to.

Mine was done this way...

But which ever way you go I would strongly re-commend fully investigating any other work which would be recommended to be done in conjunction. The mechanic who did mine had done the delevopement work on his own H3 and did 30 odd 1/4 miles in low 14's as a proving ground. He upgraded pistons etc as a result.

Would also strongly recommend a big ass intercooler with a couple of big manual fans if you do a fair bit of low range work. Just my thoughts.:)

:corn: Ive been interested in supercharging my truck for a while now. There is a guy starting to make a supercharger on the colorado forums that will fit our trucks, but he does not have a price. He was saying he wants to get a total of 400hp+ out of a 3.5/3.7 with it :whaa:. How much was your turbocharger nugget? and x2 on the pics please :)

I think thats a supercharger, Nugget do you feel the supercharger was reliable been in the outback and away from help if you had mechanical issues?

Do not..repeat...DO NOT turbocharge under any circumstances. Turbocharging an I5 = disaster and I and others have the repair bills to prove it. Wiser heads than mine cautioned but the mechanic advising me at the time said it would all be good...WRONG..WRONG..WRONG. The I5 didn't like the instant power of the turbo and a piston ended up with a hole in the top of it.

Supercharger gives a linear power and I had no problem with the reliability over 30,000kms of city and bush driving. The one thing I would stress is that you get someone who knows specialises in H3's and do not be someones test rig.

Mine included an air-water intercooler and I would strongly recommend as big assed intercooler as possible with a couple of manual fans behind the radiator to keep air flowing when high revving at low speeds as this was the only time I had the temp increase. Main area was on soft sand on a long beach for instance.

Power band is different and driving style needs to change as you need to keep the revs up for the supercharger, but the power is awesome...230-250HP at the wheels and aroung 400HP at the flywheel.

These were taken before I did the custom air box and fitted a snorkel

If your mechanis suggests a Turbonetics turbo for your H3, kick him in the nuts and run, you would have just saved yourself 10k and an engine rebuild.

Supercharger on mine is running great...touch wood...but turbo was nothing but trouble. It was so good that Turbonetics discontinued it before someone burnt their building down.

Alrock- I'll be keeping it. :) Now it's a Hummer specialty tool. lol

Nugget - No problem. You posted some nice pics and good information.

My busted up heat exchangers.

Air injection had to go.

Some time next week I'll make a block-off plate for that.

SolidusJ - I bought the kit used from theBroken. I believe I paid less than half of the retail price. I'm a little hesitant to post this, but...

Tally so far:
Supercharger kit - $3000
HPTuners -$650
Spark plugs - $45.16
Supercharger oil - $110 (A quart!)
Connectors & crimping tool to make a new injector harness (new injectors have different connectors) - $165
10mm 1/4" drive swivel socket (to remove intake, what a bear) - $8
And I'm far from done.

Dang, the Hummer tax can be a heavy tariff indeed. I'm looking forward to watching the build for sure though.

Keep it coming!! :corn:

I can't even blame it on the Hummer tax. The parts would have cost the same for any vehicle.

Injector harness half finished to show the difference between the two connector types.
