I don't understand why people think the H2 and H3 aren't real Hummers and the H1 was the only real Hummer. The H1 was designed by AM General and close to a real HMMWV. The H2 and H3 were the first vehicles designed by Hummer, so which is really a true Hummer?

With regards to Jeeps, I was planning to buy a Wrangler Unlimited until I drove the H3T. There really was no comparison. Most of the people to hate on Hummers have never driven one, so why should I value their opinion over my own?

I guess I feel like I have to speak up since as some of you know I have a custom license plate on my truck that reads "LR3EATR". I guess some might see that as bashing Land Rovers. The reality is that brand bashing was the last thing on my mind when I got the custom plate. A coworker of mine has a really nice LR3 with good AT tires, roof rack etc, but he hardly ever takes it off road. When I decided to get the license plates it was (in my mind, at the time) all a big joke with me picking on him as in saying "Dude, take your LR3 off road more!", especially since it was him who pushed me over the edge and got me started with the hobby. I did not consider that some might not realize that the license plate is a joke. For the record, I really like Land Rovers, I think they are doing a great job striking a good balance between every day creature comforts and off road capability.

Unfortunately there is some friction between some H1 owners and the other models. I think it is much less than it used to be since many current H1 owners started out in 2s or 3s but it still exists. My first Hummer was my 2003 H2. Got it brand new in 03 and loved it so much I started seriously considering getting an H1. I know a lot of people have followed the same path. Like I said before, different platforms but love of the same activity. Don't really see the room for envy/ jealousy/bashing. We routinely wheel with Jeeps and Toyotas, even the occasional Suzuki. If you are a responsible wheeler that is good enough for me.

I found a really good way to shut the jeepers up when they say my rig isn't a real HUMMER because it's not an H1/HMMWV. I ask them if their jeep is a real World War II jeep. If they say no, then I say "by your own logic, your jeep is fake." :)

I have nothing against Jeeps, its most just don't appeal to me. I have never talked trash about Jeeps and can only recall one comment I made on another forum that some MIGHT consider offensive. Someone was talking about mounting off road lights to the A-Pillars next to the windshield and jokingly I said don't do it, its a Jeep thing. I didn't mean anything by it, because after all it was something made popular by the Jeep community. Everyone has there own tastes of what they like and what they don't like. For example, I can appreciate all the time, money and work that went into Bebe and ReconH3 rigs but they just don't do it for me because they are just to far modified for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, they are great looking and extremely well built rigs. There are several things I love about ReconH3 that I could see working into one of my builds but it wouldn't be anything extreme. With that being said, I do look forward to seeing 4speedfunks low buck/budget SA conversion. Again, I MEAN NO OFFENCE TO BEBE OR RECONH3! My feelings are the same for all types of vehicles. Another example is when I was huge into car audio, Extreme class vehicles and pure "burp" vehicles just didn't do it for me. I can appreciate all the time, money and effort that goes into building one but I would rather have a Bass Race or Bass Boxing vehicle that can still play music and be demo'ed. I think everyone is allowed to have there own feels but they should not be allowed to try and force them on others.

My company used to require that we take diversity training. I totally got it. Diversity can be an asset if we utilize everyone's individual strengths. Then they required everyone to get rid of their Macs and only use PC's.

I don't hate in Jeeps, FJ or H1's I see that they all have different strengths. I just wish there wern't so many Hummer haters.

I have only seldomly had acomments on the H1 that weren't totally positive. The H2s seemed to generate the most negativity by far. H3, only a few comments that were negative.

I have had good luck with mine. No negatives that I know of in 7 yrs. When the top is of I often get "nice jeep!" Or "what kind of jeep is that?!" It must be the 7 slot grill.

It surprises me how often I get something like "That a REAL Hummer!! Cool!!" from people.... some go as far as to talk about how horrible and awful the H2's and H3's are.... Odd how non-Hummer owners seem to know so much about trucks they have never driven ;-)

It's sad that we have this disparity within our own community. I don't understand the issue between the models. For my use, the H3 works really well; almost all of the trails I have been on this summer were too narrow for the H2; when the H3 gets "pin striping" and the antenna hits the limbs, the H2 would be really too big. I can't afford an H1, and it doesn't fit in my garage with the Tahoe.

The H3 works for me.

Had a Jeep guy pull up next to me at the gas station, and said, "Its finally nice to see a real hummer, not like those 2's and 3's. I told him that i owned 2 3's and he just stared at me and asked why. I told him that the 3's are a very capable off-road vehicle and that they make a good daily SUV driver. He said that he still didnt know why because it wasnt real Hummer. I asked him if his Jeep was a real WWII Jeep ( Thanks Paladine! )and just thought.............................. and thought................................and thought.............................. Until i was done filling up he said, "Tooshay!!! You must get lots of crap about owning an H3! I just chuckled and said, " You dont know what your saying until your the one being 'taunted!" :giggle:

I have gotten the "real" Hummer comment quite a few times also. I have really enjoyed all my Hummers and yes the includes the 2 H2s and the H3 Alpha. :) I love the H3 Alpha and have had a blast wheeling it. There just isn't enough time to educate all of the uninformed.

I've only heard negative comments a couple of times. Once was when we were participating in an event that was 90% Jeeps. Our group had 27 vehicles so they asked the Hummers to bypass some obstacles to save time as they figured we'd struggle. Not wanting to fight, we took the bypasses. We went back the next day w/o the Jeeps and ran everything with ease.

Typically I get the appreciative "I'm glad you wheel your Hummer!" All of the trail stickers I have seem to add to the credibility.

Rant on:

The brand recognition bashing will never stop! PERIOD! How you personally decide how to act/ respond towards comments/ conversations will contribute to or educate the person(s) talking $hit. In all honesty, I personally view this as insulting (when I hear someone is talking $hit to me or someone else) becuase they drive a different vehicle.

The forums and clubs get way out of hand at imes. It really does make you wonder wth is wrong with that individual. I've had my share of conversations (with tree huggers, Jeep owners, Toyota Owners, etc.) while wheeling/ driving the HUMMERS. Got into it a few times where "they" literally were in my face over driving a HUMMER. 2X in Moab, 3 times in CO. 3 of those times involved with the Jeep owners were younger/ dissrespectful punks that have no clue. The two tree huggers were actually in my face and the one almost turned into fighting. When someone comes up to you while getting out of your truck and starts lecturing you about driving an earth wrecker and is in your personal space, could you not expect to get a comment to "go fawk yourself tree hugger?" lol I don't get some people.

Does driving a xyz "superior" vehicle make you a better person than the other guy/ girl driving something different?
Is it OK to judge/ label someone for what they drive?

I see this all the time on other forums/ club events. It's not just Hummer/ Jeep. Every other 4X vs 4X brand bashing conversation has this quite often in the Toyota, Rover, Nissan, etc. communities. We have even had this in our HUMMER community with H1 vs H2 vs H3. REDICULOUS!

What most of those idiots don't understand is how to respect others and their choices. They certainly don't have to agree/ like what you or others have chosen to drive, but they should learn to respect others who enjoy the same activities and those that support their sport as well. Keep acting like an @$$hole and you'll find less people to support your club(s) and charity/ fund raisers.

I got a recent comment said to me latley. "You finally saw the light and bought a real rig this time." Meaining getting rid of my last SUT and buying the JK. I looked at them in disgust as they were serious. My comment was "no, I just wanted a new truck and got a good deal on this one"...and than walked away. ..had my NorCal HUMMER shirt on too.

A recent HUMMER owner commented on my recent purchase of my JK "I can't believe you downgraded to a Jeep". Really? Not going to mention his name or from what forum, but I can tell you this. That elite attitude is exactly what I don't care to hear. Guess who's not getting help/ comments from me any longer when they have issues. Freindly joking around is one thing, that's all fun between freinds. Being arrogant/ dissrespectful to others over this topic is something I will not be apart of.

Off rant.

Missed this whole thread, Tim makes good points and I also like mike's point on diversity. I try not to talk crap about other rigs and try to be welcoming. Personally my biggest issue I have to work on is realizing no rig is perfect. Sometimes I get carried away and feel like if I had another rig other then the H3 it would be more capable but I bet if I was in something else I would be wishing I was in an H3. We all just need to be grateful for what you have and accept what others have. I am trying to work on that as best as I can because I get competitive, Tim and I had a long talk about this kind of stuff today on the phone. btw Tim sorry for keeping you on the phone again, sooner or later when you see my # you can just ignore it. lol
