I don't understand the animosity either. Some people are just haters who need to hate something.

There is a freshman who was looking to come out for the fraternity I'm in on campus...he said he was into cars, so we chatted for a bit...I asked him if he had seen the maroon H3T on campus and he said "Yeah, those things are [uncool]. My Jeep can do anything better than those H3s." I thought that was ironic coming from someone who drives a slammed electric blue Mazda3 around campus.

Shoulda see his face when I, the VP, said "Well, I guess I'm [uncool] then, because that's my truck." :hans:

Justifying why they bought what they bought, envy, ignorance...lots of reasons none of them good. The enlightened among all the groups know they are just different platforms for enjoying the same activity. I have had 4x4 Blazers, Ford and Chevy trucks, Jeeps, Hummers, don't bash on any of them. I just prefer Hummers, personal choice and no slam to any other brand. The Jeepers do seem to have brand bashing sickness worse than any other group I have noticed.

:agree: While we are on this topic, whats all the hate with H3's and 2's? I hear all the time that they are not 'real' hummers:huh: Ive owned Jeeps, and Blazers and lots of other vehicles. I just prefer Hummer because they seem a lot more stable. Heck i still have 3 Jeeps in our Company. I traded in one of them ( this was back when we had 4 ) that i barly used, for my Black H3. And the H3, alone seems 10 times more stable than the Rubicon:)

gm's silly macho advertising didn't help, neither does the fact that are so many blinged 2's and 3's. There are just as many blinged jeeps but you have to admit the hummer is more visible. I think we also owe some thanks to Arianna Huffington and her hummer bashing when the h2 came out. It was a nasty race for CA gov at the time and she started picking on hummers and hummer owners because Arnold has several (never mind that she was driving a ford excursion at the time, then switched to a prius for publicity). She got pretty nasty and really stirred the pot.

If memory serves, what became AmGeneral used to be the military division of Chrysler that actually made jeeps for the Vietnam era. You ever count the slots in the grill?

Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge vs. Toyota vs. Nissan, and on and on.

Friendly joking is common, but some people actually look for trouble by adding stickers to their vehicle that pokes at another brand. You can't add a sticker like "I got that jeep thing... now it burns when I pee," "Trail rated" because its always behind," or even "Hummer Recovery" and not say your are bashing another brand.

The only time I have had smart ass comments about H3s in Moab or seen stupid anti-Hummer stickers have been from Jeep or FJ owners who have out of state plates; usually eastern plates, where they have not off-roaded with Hummers. The locals around here that I know or on occasion have met, joke, but have trailed with or seen Hummers on the trails.

I see Jeeps alll of the time around here. Most of them are street queens. I try to get people to go offroading. But it never seems to happen.
Hmmm.... Maybe if I shower more.:giggle:

I have noticed people diving little cars are getting more obnoxious. Especially Mini Coopers.
Must think they're special or something.

I wouldn't worry too much about the superiority complex of those that drive minis or economy cars, severe weather will impact them much more than us. The choice on driving by in the blizzard and waving at them, or pulling them out, is really up to you.

I joke with you folks, but honestly in public I pretty much keep my mouth shut. I work with a guy who owns/edits the FJ Magazine, so he is really hard core. No knocks against his FJ, he gets out much more than I do, but then again he is able to get out more than I do because of his personal situation. I also have friends who are hard core Jeep guys; no big deal; my issue with the Jeep Wrangler is that I catch my back on the door latch plate in the middle of my back every time I get into a Wrangler. I have torn the back loop on a couple of pants!

I was not planning to buy an H3 when I bought mine. My Tahoe got totaled and USAA really screwed me on the value of my Tahoe. I had $11K to buy a replacement that would tow and go off-road. My wife and I decided to forgo the towing ability for an off-road capability. The H3 we bought was a great price, and had been well maintained on schedule by the dealership. The H3 had never been off-road and was really minty clean.

The dealer also had a Land Rover that we were going to drive, but the passenger seat adjustment was broken, so that was a deal breaker and we passed. I expect that if they had a clean Grand Cherokee for a good price we would have been driving that one.

I like my Hummer because it is tight, solid and doesn't rattle!

Last time I was on the trail jeep passengers were taking pictures of my t. Kind Of like the Siamese twins at a freak show. Anyhow , each rig has strength and weakness, negatives come when weaknesses are exposed. The t broke a cv because it is not a point and shoot rig and the guide was a jeep experienced lead, he laughed so hard his jeep rolled on him

I had a problem with my TJ and the door latch on the B-pillar. When getting out, my cell phone would hit and one time, I actually smashed the outside LCD screen. (But I learned it was easy to replace via parts available from LG.)

But, I also bang my droid against the H3 door jamb latch on occasion, but have learned to encase my phones in nice Seidio crush resistant cases.:)

I like Hummers, Jeep and FJs and they all have their particular faults.

Rant on:

The brand recognition bashing will never stop! PERIOD! How you personally decide how to act/ respond towards comments/ conversations will contribute to or educate the person(s) talking $hit. In all honesty, I personally view this as insulting (when I hear someone is talking $hit to me or someone else) becuase they drive a different vehicle.

The forums and clubs get way out of hand at imes. It really does make you wonder wth is wrong with that individual. I've had my share of conversations (with tree huggers, Jeep owners, Toyota Owners, etc.) while wheeling/ driving the HUMMERS. Got into it a few times where "they" literally were in my face over driving a HUMMER. 2X in Moab, 3 times in CO. 3 of those times involved with the Jeep owners were younger/ dissrespectful punks that have no clue. The two tree huggers were actually in my face and the one almost turned into fighting. When someone comes up to you while getting out of your truck and starts lecturing you about driving an earth wrecker and is in your personal space, could you not expect to get a comment to "go fawk yourself tree hugger?" lol I don't get some people.

Does driving a xyz "superior" vehicle make you a better person than the other guy/ girl driving something different?
Is it OK to judge/ label someone for what they drive?

I see this all the time on other forums/ club events. It's not just Hummer/ Jeep. Every other 4X vs 4X brand bashing conversation has this quite often in the Toyota, Rover, Nissan, etc. communities. We have even had this in our HUMMER community with H1 vs H2 vs H3. REDICULOUS!

What most of those idiots don't understand is how to respect others and their choices. They certainly don't have to agree/ like what you or others have chosen to drive, but they should learn to respect others who enjoy the same activities and those that support their sport as well. Keep acting like an @$$hole and you'll find less people to support your club(s) and charity/ fund raisers.

I got a recent comment said to me latley. "You finally saw the light and bought a real rig this time." Meaining getting rid of my last SUT and buying the JK. I looked at them in disgust as they were serious. My comment was "no, I just wanted a new truck and got a good deal on this one"...and than walked away. ..had my NorCal HUMMER shirt on too.

A recent HUMMER owner commented on my recent purchase of my JK "I can't believe you downgraded to a Jeep". Really? Not going to mention his name or from what forum, but I can tell you this. That elite attitude is exactly what I don't care to hear. Guess who's not getting help/ comments from me any longer when they have issues. Freindly joking around is one thing, that's all fun between freinds. Being arrogant/ dissrespectful to others over this topic is something I will not be apart of.

Off rant.

I agree that it is very hard to "see" the intention of the poster in forums. Just so everyone here knows, I am never serious when commenting about stuff on here related to wheeling or vehicles. I would love to be able to do all of the cool stuff that Tim does; build up a rig and get another to build up again. What a great job that is!!!!

My life is go to work, put up with unmentionable BS, and count the days until the weekend. Once and a while I am reminded that the days I have with my wife are certainly limited, and every moment, and every sight seen must be taken in because in a year, a very real possibility exists that my wife may not be here. It is very sad to remember that this could be the last fall and turning leaves next year I could be alone. I pray that is not the case; I pray for the cancer to be eradicated from my wife's body.

That is the only thing that makes me serious about anything. Nothing else really matters at all. Certainly not a vehicle.

I'll leave them stuck in the snow. Eventually they may figure it out on their own. But I doubt it.

Funnything is around here they are very likely to have a F250 sitting in their driveway. makes no sense to me.

Um, have you driven a Jeep? Really, the Rubicon was at the top of my list until my third test drive in a brand new four door. Then I decided I wanted a vehicle I could actually drive on the street AND off road.

Oh, about the 2 & 3 vs. 1 thing--uh, yeah, it's an H1. There's no comparison. Drives me nuts to hear guys beat beat down the 2/3 as not being HUMMER's. I actually emailed a guy listing H1 parts for the "real HUMMER, not the wannabe 2 or 3". He was a mechanic and had some left over H1 parts; so yeah, I emailed him and asked him if he even owns a HUMMER, pretty ballsy statement to beat down something he's never even owned. But yeah, GM did a respectable job to make mini-H1's with the 2's and 3's though they really aren't H1's they're still a nice tribute.
