so a minor fix tonight

yeah, the Ranchos are too short, but my wallet doesn't have an extra 400 to replace them, and it still wouldn't fix the shock hanging low.... so here's my solution




I'll weld braces on Wednesday night - but I want to drive it around a bit to make sure I didn't screw something up

bent light bar


I admit that part of me considered doing this


But the reason I bought the lights was to use my old light bar on my wife's Jeep....

To install... use the lowest bolt hole and line it up with the highest screw on the windshield frame. Then run another screw in the top hole to hold it in place and test fit the light


remove the fake airbox covers

and the rubber seal


from the flat under the windshield to the top of the hole 21 1/2"


for those who are installing the nutserts - this the way to install them

In all honesty, I'm going to rig up a nutsert spot welder... weld the nut in rather than friction... especially since this is double walled with a space - impossible for the nutsert to perfectly hold

I did modifications to my brackets, I drilled a hole 2" closer to the window and about 1/4" higher. The brackets are made for a 52.5" light bar... mine is 50.5" so I simply increased the bend closest to the windshield a few degrees


I like this better, it lowers the wind drag, and keeps the lights further out of harm's way

My new HAM radio has a detachable face, so today's task was putting it into a useful spot


and viola.... much better (now the dog can't turn it on while he's rustling around

there's a guy on Corvette Forum who did that with his turbo'd C3... I think it looks really funny because the pipe has to come out in the middle of the vent since the frame covers the lower 1/3 of that hole..... with that said, the has been some pointed comments from friends about turbo'ing the next motor going into this car. I'm considering, though, doing that type of exhaust on my H3 and a squared exhaust using the same idea on my 50 Buick

it's $350 delivered - which is the same price pretty much everywhere - many will list them for $250 plus 100 shipping....

If there's enough interest, I'll make light bar brackets that pull the curved bar to the window and is the right bends for a 50" bar (the G2 brackets are for a 52.5" bar). I'll also make them from 3/16" aluminum (6063).... cost would be in the $100 range. This is a one-time deal, though.... I've no interest in doing this more than once.
