I made clips... I used 1" x .25 stainless flat bar with a stainless bolt welded to it. Those are bolted to the feet with nylock nuts

I like your light set up. bar in front and lights on the sides. i'm toying with the idea of putting lights on the sides when I get a roof rack, but i'll probably just do lights in front and some in back wired to the reverse lights.

it's nice to have the reverse lights and lights wired to a switch for the back - I've found them most useful for looking back to see if I missed the turn or for winching... the biggest change I made is the one I think I'll like the most.... the angle lights.... my lights on the side were supposed to cover when I went around corners at night - but they really don't. The lights one the side are great for prepping to travel into the woods, and for doing road control.... outside of that, the ambient light tends to be good enough for 90* to your side. Eventually, I'll add forward-facing winch lights - they'll probably be the same as my angle lights

i didn't think of that. i figured they were to increase visibility while looking for lost people or something like that, since it's a S&R rig.

that's what we use helicopters for.... the only time the lights come in handy for actual searching is when they're trying to get a visual of where we've set up the comm tower - from the air, you can see the light bar 4 miles away.... otherwise, finding some road that may or may not have been used in the last 20 years, at night, through hummer (or jeep for that matter) windows is difficult, your forward lights tend to create a shadow over the side roads...

This has come up a few times, so I edited post number 195 to specifically identify the resistor I used to fool the computer so that I can remove the computer from the control of the electric locker

here's that information again
The resistor is a 10 kohm 1/4 watt carbon-film resistor
specifically,
1st band - red
2nd band - blue
3rd band - orange
4th band - gold

H4O's software will simply say this thread has been updated - but doesn't point you back to an old thread... thus this post... anyway, carry on

replaced the timken bearings... one was definitely crunchy... and hopefully I identified a squeak - the dust covers had cracks in them.... crossing fingers on that

they don't, IIRC, come pre-bent.... I put thread lock on it, and ran it back in, but I know it's not long for this world - so I best get to ordering another.... but first I need to know what they're called?

So I installed the H40 brackets I made (like a year ago).



I had an issue because I had already put nutserts in for the G2 bracket - had I done this install without pre-threaded holes; I'd have move the brackets further forward on the A pillar and a bit further up on the windshield... and I'd have gone with a 52.5" light bar.... still, it's further out of harms way, and makes a nice visor.

Whistling.... I took duct tape to work with me today (and this picture will show what I was talking about on the board)


I put tape all over it, but it became clear that the whistle was coming from the ends of the light bar
so I fixed it
with silicone



can't plug them all, but I can use the silicone to stop the vibrations on the end.

and a huge D'OH
the bar is too close to the windshield, thus the wipers get stuck under them. I haven't decided which route I'm going to take to fix it, so for now it has funny looking brackets on it with no light bar. Part of me is considering doing away with the bar altogether and putting more lights on the brush guard.... we'll see.

Do you think a person could use the light bar mounts to attach limb risers? My roof rack is a short one so not really anything to attach to.

The stereo in my H3 is the stock GPS stereo. It's worked fine, but now it's not. Right now it owns a CD (won't let it free), the mapping software was last updated in 2008, and the screen is mostly blue with a few fuzzy items that might be letters... time to upgrade



as with anything else, I should have ordered two other parts - three, actually.
1) the Sirius black box
2) the antenna adapter for the GM antenna to the sirius box
3) the parking-brake-fooling wiring so I can watch DVDs instead of paying attention to the road...

so I wait for those bits to show (tomorrow)... then in it goes.

a few notes

why they didn't put all of the wiring instruction for both plugs on one page, instead of two pages apart is well above my 156 IQ... they didn't, and there are multiple orange with white strip wires...
they do resolder easily though.
yes, despite what the box says, you need another box to get sirius
you need the latest version of android to do the android auto (lollipop). that's version 5.0... and whether or not your phone has it does not depend so much on google/motorola but upon whether your carrier has made the update available. That said, there seems to be a few work-arounds, I'll let you know what those are/if they work once I install this

it's shorter because I haul dogs, Buick loves his spot back there... I've started leaving my SAR back-pack at home, since I drive right by my house to go to Snohomish County - thus, it doesn't need to be as tall. Now to find some tough boxes to put on the tray to have all the gear in them.
