heck of a lot cheaper than a trailer... anyway, here it is installed

you have to mount the bolts so the rails allow side or rear opening

duct tape to hold it in position

installed

with the ladder

it has a part that zips to the bottom of the opened portion thus giving you a changing area ....

when I go out this week and weekend, I'm sure I'll install it and post up

If you retract that ladder and hang on the end that's folded out, it will start to stretch the tent fabric a bit so that it can fold out nice and flat. Also, with the tent set up and zipped closed, hose it down, that will let all the threads expand and seal the tent up to finish waterproofing it.

Also do yourself a favor, the aluminum crossbars that come with it, cut them down on the folding side otherwise they'll interfere really bad with sliding the car side of your annex in.

So what's the word on H3 factory roof rails? Rumor is they aren't supposed to be able to have that much weight bolted to them... Something about ripping the factory Rivnuts out of the roof or something. That's why I've been hesitant to bolt my RTT to my 3's roof.

Yeah, I felt the same but with a proper roof rack due to weight displacement your ratings go up considerably. I *think* the factory crossbars can handle it, but I'm not keen on being the guinea pig. Bear in mind the rates change for static versus dynamic loads. This tent only weighs in at 115-135 lbs. that should be within the H3's dynamic load capacity.

I was wondering about that - there is a downside, though, the rack I built is just wider than the tent base, so the rails have to be ~ 1 1/2" wider than the tent base.... it was a pain getting the cover on with the rails .... hmmm, now I'm going to have to try it. thanks for the headsup

the RTT weighs less than the Gobi rack, but even so, the rails are pretty stout compared to just about anything else. Also, look at ABN's signature picture.... I think he's reduced his roof weight with the tent.

I "spun out" one of my riv-nuts and one was missing on the other side (previous owner perhaps) and i had my RTT mounted to the top of my T for 2 months no problem.... that said those two missing/damaged rivnuts made me feel unsettled enough that I made a bed rack for this year and I haven't looked back or regretted it one bit.

These guys should be fine with thier Tents up top as long as all rivnuts are in good order (I'd be checking each one very closely on a semi annual basis)

yes, now instead of packing 3 duffels up top with 2 sleeping bags, 2 pillows, 2 air matresses, air pump, two bags of clothes, 5 gal fuel, 5gal water, high lift jack, axe and shovel, now I'm down to tent with bags and pillows inside, jack, and shovel/axe. Just snagged two 2gal rotopax cans. Hope to have them mounted up on their own bracket to rear door once all the interior reinforcing is done. The Memorial Day run was a learning curve in re packing the rig but the new setup is much less top heavy. Readjusted coolers, clothes, camp kitchen box, and dry goods box to the back seat and recovery gear, tools, and water to the rear foot wells. Freed up the back end for our camp chairs and the dogs. No room for passengers, but great for the two of us. That combined with schwartzys rear leaf spring hanger extensions has stiffened everything up so I have much less sway. I figure I'll probably be due to add a leaf this fall. We'll see.

I'm amazed at how much quieter they are than the Toyos.... they also seem to have less rolling resistance. However, all that will be for naught if it won't wheel... I should be able to at least give it a bit of a test this weekend.

I like them, but wait until I get some wheeling time in them - they look mean, but outside of my Corvette, I honestly couldn't give a rats adze about looks (and I don't really care about the Corvette either)

obligatory pictures.
