I agree to a point. However, the it is using a vehicle for a purpose that is contrary to its intended application that I find humorous. I also laugh at stock Jeeps Wranglers on small street tires. Why drive something that provides such a miserable ride and never go off road?

...I feel that this is part of the reason Hummer got such a bad rap and are no longer around. Take Wranglers for instance, 80% of the Wranglers around my way look like they've never seen the dirt. They're everywhere, I see at least 2 dozen every day driving back and forth to work. They post only marginally better environmental numbers than my H2, but I've never heard one tree-hugger speak out against Jeep. They seemingly out number me by 100 to 1 thus producing 100 times the negative impact on the environment, but not one hugger within earshot has so much as said the word 'Jeep.' Why? I think it's because Wranglers are viewed as enthusiast vehicles that quietly stay below the radar. While the majority of the Wranglers produced in this country are used 'contrary to their intended purpose' (never seeing a dirt road or the 4wd engaged), they are done so in a very low key kinda way. Hummers on the other hand were immediately embraced by the movie/music industry, athletes and rap-stars, and the like which jammed them straight into the lime-light. It then became a battle for whose Hummer had the most 'bling;' which one stood out the most; turning these vehicles into huge, obnoxious symbols of 'American excess;' a solid platinum lightening rod for the global warming/tree hugging/granola eaters. I'm not saying that the bling and ostentatious misuse of the Hummer product is what killed it...but it definitely contributed to the rapidity of its downfall in my book...not to mention the loss of respect on the trail.

That's the part that really gets under my skin...the way Hummers are usually viewed on the trail. It's like it's always got to prove itself before it gets taken seriously. Its a 3/4 ton, 8 lug, off-road vehicle that has the approach, departure and clearance to just go over and through sh!t, but it still gets the giggle, smirks and off-handed comments when it rolls in. LOL! WTF?
:fu

It was such a REFRESHING change of pace riding at Rausch with a bunch of other Hummer owners...all that sh!t was not an issue. Just wheelin' and fun.

I agree. The other thing that hurt Hummer was when the green movement started the H2 happened to be at the bottom of the mpg list. The H2 became the poster child for excess because of 1/100th of a mpg and since most people can't tell the difference between an H2 and an H3 they just hate them all.

...so now Hummer is gone. The terrible, gas-guzzling boxes are out of production...
What does Chrysler do? Immediately emulates the Hummer's looks with a body-colored four-door Wrangler and Ford fills the MPG-guzzling niche with the 11 MPG Raptor. Do you hear anybody bitchin' about the Raptor...no, no you don't; at least I haven't. You gotta love this world...

Hell, the total number of all civilian HUMMERs ever produced probably does not equal one year’s run of Super Duty trucks.

So......Numerically speaking, HUMMERs are a drop in the bucket.

The hate is unjustified and disproportionate.

****ers ! ! !

ehhh, most of the people that have negative things to say against Hummers are jealous that they can't afford one (they lack the will/self restraint to better spend their money and or to make more money to do so)

heck, most of my co workers were like how can you afford this thing, you get what 2 gallons per mile? (exaggerated I admit, but one of my co workers did ask that. others asked 3-4 mpg, 5-6, and 7-8 typically.) my response is 'no, I get 12-14mpg and it's not about the mpg it's about the SPM :)) Per Mile)'. they usually get a shocked look on their face and then are like wow!

But, I have been fortunate that most of my encounters with people have been positive. Worst encounters are the lifted trucks that try to intimidate me by driving close to my truck as they pass me or someone cutting me off.

Heck... I have an H3 with I5 and I get this "how can you afford it" so many times. Their eyes are getting big when I tell them that I get about 16-17mpg... Suburban, Escalade and Yukon get about the same gas millage as H2 and you don't see anyone talking trash about it. Suburban been around for ages and no problem.

I agree with you, but what'r ya gonna do? The perceptions have already been formed...the beast has already been laid to rest. Oh well...as long as GM keeps making 2500 parts and gasoline is still legal, I'll continue pushing mine over rocks, through mud, and whatever else I can find. LOL!

Don't forget that, further we go, more and more mall crawler hummers will end up in the junk yard lots. That making used parts more available for good price.

LOL! And since they are typically covered in fake, plastic chrome they should remain in fairly good condition while sitting in the junk yards awaiting our arrival. :)

In Russia we have a saying. "By the voice of a child sound truth." Meaning that kids are not affected by "popular opinion" and not brainwashed by others. What they say comes out of their hart, there fore they don't lie but just say the things the way they are.
Your neighbors are brainwashed zombies and their kids know (feel) that what you do is "Cool".
Also there is a saying. "Big toys for bug boys". We gave up on our little toy cars and now playing with big real cars. It's always good to keep your inner child happy.
