I agree to a point. However, the it is using a vehicle for a purpose that is contrary to its intended application that I find humorous. I also laugh at stock Jeeps Wranglers on small street tires. Why drive something that provides such a miserable ride and never go off road?

...I feel that this is part of the reason Hummer got such a bad rap and are no longer around. Take Wranglers for instance, 80% of the Wranglers around my way look like they've never seen the dirt. They're everywhere, I see at least 2 dozen every day driving back and forth to work. They post only marginally better environmental numbers than my H2, but I've never heard one tree-hugger speak out against Jeep. They seemingly out number me by 100 to 1 thus producing 100 times the negative impact on the environment, but not one hugger within earshot has so much as said the word 'Jeep.' Why? I think it's because Wranglers are viewed as enthusiast vehicles that quietly stay below the radar. While the majority of the Wranglers produced in this country are used 'contrary to their intended purpose' (never seeing a dirt road or the 4wd engaged), they are done so in a very low key kinda way. Hummers on the other hand were immediately embraced by the movie/music industry, athletes and rap-stars, and the like which jammed them straight into the lime-light. It then became a battle for whose Hummer had the most 'bling;' which one stood out the most; turning these vehicles into huge, obnoxious symbols of 'American excess;' a solid platinum lightening rod for the global warming/tree hugging/granola eaters. I'm not saying that the bling and ostentatious misuse of the Hummer product is what killed it...but it definitely contributed to the rapidity of its downfall in my book...not to mention the loss of respect on the trail.
That's the part that really gets under my skin...the way Hummers are usually viewed on the trail. It's like it's always got to prove itself before it gets taken seriously. Its a 3/4 ton, 8 lug, off-road vehicle that has the approach, departure and clearance to just go over and through sh!t, but it still gets the giggle, smirks and off-handed comments when it rolls in. LOL! WTF?
:fu
It was such a REFRESHING change of pace riding at Rausch with a bunch of other Hummer owners...all that sh!t was not an issue. Just wheelin' and fun.
