I'm listening to FDNY Dispatch from Los Angeles (While I dispatch from my work) so I will try to update this while I'm at work

-14 Foot high Tide in Lower Manhattan
-11+ States affected of no power= 6+ Million without power
-oldest Nuclear Reactor was at highest alert level
-ConEdison powerplant explosion in NYC
-13 dead so far
-HMS Bounty (three masted Ship) sunk off the coast of N Carolina (looks like Captain went down with the ship)
-FDNY trying to reach a Fifth Alarm Fire (several maydays are heard on radio; on two streets the homes have been burnt to the ground) AND a Second Alarm fire in Queens but having difficulty due to Flooding (called National Guard to get Humvees to be able to get access to burning building)
-NYC getting 20,000 911 calls an hour.
-NYC Subways closed the rest of the week to pump out the water and fix the damage
-NYU Langone Medical Center Evacuated
-all three airports closed in NYC area
-12000+ flights cancelled in Northeast area
-multiple cases in NYC where firefighters can't respond to fires
-fire crew are responding to a 8 story commercial building on fire in Manhattan at 643 W 43 ST
-NYPD officeer jumps in waist high water to help someon, radio catches him say "this **** is cold!"

Breezy Fire has been upgraded from a Fifth Alarm Fire to a Sixth Alarm Fire. FDNY still having trouble reaching fire to attack it and knock it down
Battalion Chief advises little to no water pressure. only option is drafting water
60+ houses have burnt to the ground, 10+ still on fire
National guard escorting FDNY Firefighters in 7ton trucks to get to Breezy fire while 200+ alerady on scene
one firefighter seriously injured.


NYPD has learned that their "barrier trucks" the big stake bed trucks, are big and tough enough to drive into water.

FDNY Apparatuses are running out of fuel. Refueling Tankers being called for.


Sixth Alarm Breezy fire still out of control. Whole street is engulfed and FDNY has to wait it out for safety.


FDNY Engine 286 is disabled on a low lying bridge. Dispatchers trying to get another crew to them to move them to higher ground.

Thanks for the updates. All my family lives on Long Island. They are in a world of hurt. Water was up to their front yard yesterday and that was before it even rained. The flooding is terrible. Friends who lived by my old Elementary school can't even access there homes by car, only by boat. Hopefully everyone is ok.

What's up with Ron? His boat is in danger?

This ship was built about an hour away from where I live back in the 1960's.

I hope everyone on the US east coast is ok; it appears as if Sandy will be tropical storm / post tropical storm by the time it gets to us here in Nova Scotia, Canada.

It's high 40's and no power or heat since 7:00 pm yesterday. Trees pulled out buy the roots. My shed blew away like in the Wizard of OZ. Never to be seen again. Roofs and siding missing from most houses. I live north west of Philly and we were directly in the path. My mother lives on a south Jersey barrier island and it is under water. The island is less then a mile from where Sandy made land fall... Still have cell and data coverage. Charging Phones and iPads in the H3.

My mom texted about 20 friends back on long island this morning still with no answers hours later. We did see via facebook a friend went down into the basement to turn off the breaker when they smelled burnt electrical wires and the walls caved in and water rushed in...luckily they made it out ok but there house is done. Others we know have about 6 feet of water in their houses. Luckily no injuries so far.

One friend whos home is without power went to a Panera Bread in Hicksville to eat and to charge their cell phones and ipads. The store manager had deliberately shut off all the electrical outlets in the store. Unbelievably stupid of him / her!

Not really. They probably had tons of people hanging out just to charge things and use laptops. Once it gets to that point they start to get in the way of legit customers. That said, putting a sign up stating a one-hour max visit and enforcing it might have been a better option.

This would assume that people go there *ONLY* to charge their devices and not buy anything. I doubt that's the case.

I did that sitting in my HUMMER.


The storm didn't hit us too bad. The light went out about 10pm and came back up around 5am the next day. No major damages and just a few fallen branches.... Except for one car that was parked right under a huge tree...

As i watch the news and each story is about how people cant get gas, etc etc etc. I cant help but wonder, do people not think that atleast a few days before the storm, to stock up, i realize that the amount one stocks up might not be sufficient, but it just seems that people blatantly decide to not prepare. I realize that this is not the case for everyone, but just seems like it to me. It would only seem logical to me to top off the gas tank and have a couple of extra gas tanks filled up and ready.

I realize im preaching to the choir here, since we are all pretty much like minded here and are stocked up constantly, but i still get puzzled at societies hiccups.
