Linex Help!

I'm new to this site and have seen some older threads on here about linex on your hummers. I was interested in putting the linex on my grille and running boards. I've seen pictures of the grilles, but not running boards. I was wondering if anybody had done their running boards, and how the linex is holding up on the grill!

I just got a quote from them and the key is the prep work and making sure they don't over spare. Check out shop and surf the web to see any bad reviews on the store location and be sure to ask for the UV protection. Good luck :thumbs:

Have you linexed any of your hummer yet? And much do you think the grille by itself would cost?

Nothing lines yet but I couldn't see more the $300 for the grille.

I paid $50 for the grille and door handles a few years ago. It all depends what the specific location wants to charge you

Idk if your open to other suggestions bud i wanted my grille to be black instead of chrome and I went with plastidip. It has been holding up well so far and looks good. Just a suggestion its cheap too

I had a chrome grille on my H3. I had it line-xed about 4 years ago. I preped it myself. I used an orbital sander with 80 grit sand paper and applied the stainless steel "hummer" letters to the grill. I took it to a line-x dealer and it was done in less than 30 minutes. It still looks as good as the day it was done. No regrets.


Shop around though, because Line-x dealers vary in price. I called around my area before I found one that was in line with what I had read on other forums. Higher price does not mean you'll get a better quality job.

I paid 80 bucks four years ago.

Yeah I painted my mirror covers with some wheel paint that looks good for about $15 and that has help up great! But I really like the texture of linex

Does the linex on the door handles hold up alright from grabbing it all day? And does it bother you grabbing the handles with the rigid linex on it?

It's not bothersome at all to grab and it has held up great. Other than some moron at a dealer that ripped my door handle off then just put it inside my vehicle like I wouldn't notice. Got him fired, none of the linex has come off though.

I did my grill with Dupli-Color bed armor and looks great .

I also used the duplicolor bed liner but I used their matte clearcoat over that to help seal it and make it easy to clean. I did the grill, hood panel, vent covers, mirrors, handles and emblems. It's got the texture but the clearcoat makes it smoother to the touch. It's not abrasive. Gonna do more once the spring rain stops.

I've heard the bedliner can absorb mud and water leaving spots in it. I've never had any issues with them wiping clean without any spotting since I used the clearcoat...

How many coats did you put and did you apply any adhesion promoter before using plastidip?

Nope I didn't out any promoter before painting I took off the grille and washed it real good leg it dry then put about three or four coats of plastidip on it and it came out well. I used less than a $6 can of plastidip to paint the whole grille so I thought that was pretty good.

For the guys that used the dupli color.. did you use the spray can or brush on? I'm getting tired of worrying about the plastidip and want something permanent...

Spray can. 1 can was enough for the grill...

I had my gobi roof rack, light covers, u steps, brush guard,rear step & hood grill line x'd....got a killer deal...I paid about $500 for everything...

i had the grille Line-x'd in 05 for 100 bucks and the fake hood vent was $60.00 a couple months later. i have rattle canned everything else for under 20 bucks including my wheels. everything on the 1 i have done with rattle cans with surprisingly good results :cheers:

I used duplicolor.... I used 2 cans and still get water bubbles in the rain.... when the sun hits it and dries it up they go away.... gonna put a few more coats on and clear coat it

If you get bubbles underneath it might be better to start from scratch and repaint, it sounds like the initial coat isn't adhering to whatever you painted
