iPad 3 - death grip all over again

Hey folks,

I wanted to treat myself to a nice shiny new iPad 3 with GPS and 4G to replace my aging Samsing Galaxy Tablet that I use for off-road navigation in the H1, so I went and got one.

My impressions:

Screen is amazingly beautiful, clear, crisp and high resolution.
Processor is nice and fast
Battery is nowhere near what earlier iPad's were

And, last but not least:

iPad 3 is affected by a "death grip". When I hold the iPad with my left hand, and have the iPad's button to the left, the WiFi signal will drop in strength and disconnect. The moment I move my hand, things return to normal.

So.... I'm going to return the iPad.

When it comes to WiFi, I've found that most consumer electronics have some version of the death grip where your body interferes. Some, like the Apples, just tend to be more sensitive to it.

LOL, I'm referring to the very first 8 inch tablet by Samsung, I think it was released in 2010? -That's an entire ice age in the world of tablets.....

I agree with you about interference, but I can't accept that a 700+ dollar device completely loses its WiFi connection when I hold it in my hand in what, to me, is a natural position. I could accept a certain degree of signal loss, but not a complete loss of connection. Also, it has a real hard time re-acquiring WiFi when I wake it up from sleep.

I have one of the new ipads with WIFI and 4G at the office and have not experienced any issues with signal loss, regardless of the case or the way I hold it.

I just got an Asus Transformer with the keyboard dock. I really like it. The dock has two USB ports, a real working trackpad and an aux. battery to extend my usable uptime to 12 hours. Best of all, it is still running droid so all my favorite apps on my phone work there as well.

My iPad has not suffered from the affliction but it isn't the latest version. Adding USB ports to the iPad would make it perfect. We saw someone lose one down the entrance to Hell's gate in Moab. It slid down the rock about 200'. Still worked like a charm even though the screen was scratched up pretty bad.

Im still satisfied with my ipad 2 its survived quite a bit too scorching heat in afghanistan and sand storms lol but my wife wants the ipad 3 now dear lord

Zig stopped over this week and had the new IPad3. I di dnot have any signal interuption, but did read about this yesterday. I think I'm still going to order one in though..along with screen protector and Ram mount for the JK.

As others have said, don't drop it down the entrance to Hells Gate. We could have used that thing like a snow disc going down
