While I was installing Windows 8 on the carputer today I pulled the column apart to look at it.

You will need to take the cover off the column. There are 3 torx head screws. Use a credit card or other sturdy piece of plastic between the top and bottom to separate them. Now, I know the cylinder is different if you have an automatic transmission, but on mine there is a round black plastic piece on the opposite side from where the key is. Remove the two screws and unplug the wiring harness. Turn the key to run and you can remove the plastic piece then hose it down with electrical cleaner.

The radio shop that installed my navigation says that the bypass kit that is installed with remote starters will work. Has anyone else tried this? I may try this in the next few days. He owes me a favor and he can install a Viper remote starter for @ $150.

I was thinking of that option first, then realized I'd rather have the engine pcm ignore the pass lock system and have fuel injection on during ignition

He said he has seen this problem before and not just with GM vehicles. He did say that at CES conference he went too, some of the electronics companies said that car makers were forced by legislation from insurance companies to quickly incorporate some type of factory security to minimize theft. Since the majority of consumers will not pay for an aftermarket alarm system, car makers had a knee jerk reaction and we end up dealing with poor engineering. I made an appointment for the remote starter to be installed Thursday. I will update how it goes since the problem only happens once a week if that.

Fuse pulling doesn't work on mine.

Ex Umbris Venimus

There's really no way pulling the fuse wouldn't work as it cuts power to the DRL.

You might have had the map on the lid upside down and pulled the wrong fuse. Give it another try.

If you are using a remote starter to get around problems you are having with the switch it should work but you will need to always use the remote. If you use the key and it malfunctions. The remote start also won't work until the security window times out. This is fine if you always use the remote until you hand the truck over to a mechanic or a valet etc. Also keep in mind, if installed correctly, the remote start won't w pirk with the hood open.

Like I said earlier in this thread, try cleaning the electrical contacts on the switch.

As for the technology being pushed on automakers, the US was years behind implementing it compared to other countries and at the time auto theft was out of control. The H3 uses the most basic imobilizer out there. Resistors are far from being new technology.

This happened to me the other night for the second time since i've owned her (3.5 years?). I wasn't sure if it was the passkey giving me fits, the ignition switch, the solenoid in the shifter column, or the PRNDL switch. It's happened to me twice, both times i've mentally noted before hand that: i stopped, threw it park, turned the key off, then back to the on position realizing i need lights, and hopped out of the vehicle almost all at the exact same time, which is bad. I was in a hurry, and had to load some stuff. So i got the 3 loaded, hopped in (had been about 10 minutes), no start, Crawled underneith the truck, tapped on the PRNDL switch which is on the side of the trans, hopped back into the rig, fired right up. Not sure if it was the passkey had enough time to reset, or the prndl switch wasn't reading it was safe to start. Both times i've tapped on the prndl/neutral safety switch, it's fired up after, but it could very well be coincidental that the passkey ran out of time and reset itself. Just my .02 on the subject.

If it was the passkey you probably would have noticed the red lock light flashing on the dash.

I used contact cleaner several times but it never made a difference. Cant afford to be with out a car for a week, as long as I use the remote starter it always starts.

Since you already have the remote starter installed, connect the wire on the bypass that receives the 12V+ signal from the remote start to a switched 12V+ circuit that retains power when the key is in the "start" position. This will do the same thing as installing a resistor like I suggested earlier in this thread.

Anyone try another guys post that stated the plug on the ignition housing had oxidation on the pins and he simply soldered the three wired directly... And now its fixed?
