DRL options?

So my '09 had the factory headlamps as the daytime running lights. I recently did a projector retrofit, and pulled the DRL fuse.

I would like to use my fog lamps (or something else even) as the DRL, so is it logical to think that:

- Factory DRL power was sent through DRL fuse
- Pulling fuse broke the link between BCM and DRL lights
- Tap into one side of the DRL fuse holder (the side coming from BCM)
- Use that wire as a trigger for a new relay
- Run relay output to whatever lights I want to use as DRL

Has anyone done this? Sounds like it would work, at least in theory...

I don't know if this is a risk, but if you intend to retain manual use of the fogs, be careful of unwanted interplay between the new relay, existing fog relay, and the BCM. If you never use the fogs manually, you could probably just pull the existing relay. Or use the fog relay for the DRL mod.

Yeah, the plan would be just to wire directly to the fogs using the new relay that is triggered by the DRL. With the HID retrofit, the fogs are not even noticeable when they're on at night, so figured that I may just as well re-purpose them to be DRLs.

Hmmmm..... Just thinking out loud here, but if the fogs have their own fuse (not sure if they do or don't), would it be possible to just make a "jumper" that would go from one side of the DRL fuse (BCM signal) to the opposite side of the Foglight fuse (output to fog lights side)?

Seems like the BCM signal that would normally trigger the DRLs, would just trigger the fog lights.

I think you, sir, are onto something here! Sounds like it should work... as long as the switch for the fogs are upwards of the fuse (basically not after the jumper wire)
