Considering Goodyear Duratracs

I have a 2010 H3 Adventure and have about 43k miles. The stock bridgestones look ok, but I'm considering new tires in the next 6 months. I am planning to stay with the stock 285/75R16 size. I was looking at the Goodyear Duratracs since they are almost like an AT/MT hybrid. I daily drive it so i don't want to loose much MPG with an MT tire. Has anyone switched to these from the Bridgestones in the same size?(most threads I find about these are with increasing tire size) Wondering how they will affect gas mileage and how people like them.

I got Duratracs but in 305/70. It got the same radius as 285/75 but just a bit wider. I did not noticed much difference on the gas millage but the tires are very good on any surface and verry quite compare to other MTs.

I really wish you could try tires before you buy them. I'm considering Duratracs for my daily use tires, but I really don't want to give up much performance vs. an MT. For those of you who run Duratracs, In mud and dirt, with a good MT tire being a "10", where would you put a Duratrac in relation?

My duratracs do well on the street and kick ass in ice and snow. They are the best snow tires around. I haven't had an issue in mud. I'd like loose silt/dirt traction on hill climbs to be better as they slip in that terrain and rocks they do pretty well. Mine are load range E so going a little lower in psi will help

From what I know from other people, they are great in snow and ice (but far from the best), are decent in sand and mud.
Don't believe I would ever put them on my H3; but I would put a set on my Silverado next week if they made them in that size.

If looking for what is probably the best snow and ice tires, I would bet one of these would be the best:
Nokian Hakkapeliitta R
Bridgestone Blizzak
Michelin Pilot PA3
Michelin X-ice
Continental Extreme

Duratracs are not the best in anything. You can get better ice/snow tires and you get better mud and rock tires. Duratracs are the best overall all-around tires. Just note that it is not a true MT, it is a crossover of LT and MT.
Winter tires are good on snow and ice but will not be good in mud and rocks, the rubber is much softer and wears out very quick on the dry road(only good in areas where it is snows allot). And MT tires are good on rock and mud but crap on the ice and ok on snow, AND VERY noisy as hell on the dry road(very good for off-road but not good for dd)

Well, I have them on my Hummer H3 and on my Ford Sport Trac. I have had them in snow, ice, sand, mud, dirt you name it. I have been off roading with other Hummers and some Jeepers and went everywhere everyone else went. I did just as good as the ones running the MT's. I have bought two sets, and if and when I go up to 315's I would not even think about buying a different tire. They are awesome offroad and on road. Also very quite for the tread that they have. I dont think you can go wrong with them...

I love mine. I've never been stuck and i've been through some SERIOUS mud. They do well on the rock and loose gravel as well.

It sounds like the perfect tire for me. I daily drive in NJ so i need snow/ice traction. I do mild offroading basically beach sand and fire trails - but nothing major. I also really like the look of them.

There are some Duratrac haters out there - but I'm not one of them. Mine have been very good to me. Ran 1200 miles highway in 2 days with zero issues to get my latest Irish Setter rescue. Been on the sand dunes with no issues - just air down. Been in snow at Camp Grayling with H1's and H2's and climbed eveything with my Duratracs. Forded flooded flats 18" deep on Drummond. Climbed rock. Drove over fallen trees. AND drive daily on the street - 15,000 miles a year. Have 40,000 on mine and still running great this winter in Michigan. Would certainly consider the 305/70's especially if sand was going to be a regular medium. They can be studded if your local and driving needs require it. There may be a better tire out there but I'm not looking for it.

The White H3 runs 285 Duratracs as does my Slate Blue Metallic in the following photos.

I have 32,000 miles on my Duratracs on my H3. I will take a pic and add it to this post of how much tread I have left. Most of my miles are highway miles as well. I rotate every 3500-4000 miles. That is the key to any aggressive tire... I will even post what these come new as far as tread depth and I will measure and tell you exactly what they have left.

Glad to hear all the good reviews on the Duratrac, I just bought them in the 305-75-16 and will mount them this weekend. I think they will be a good choice, haven't really read anything negative yet. Good luck

We had these on our truck at work and they worked great for getting around the range roads on Benning. Also they didnt have very much road noise at all and our mileage was still about the same. I am looking into these tires too they ride pretty good.
