Ammo Shelf Life

Indeed.

Here in Burbank area, the gun stores are short on brass range ammo, but not FMJ. .223/5.56 sells out fast but everything else I can get no problem.
I'm hitting up the local smaller sporting shops, they usually stock .223/5.56 twice a week but they have a 5 box per brand limit.

Mags are in short supply in retail stores but I'm noticing the prices are dropping slightly if you buy in large batches. People were selling pmag 30 "rebuild" [Yeah yeah California] kits for $100 each, but now I'm seeing them go for $25-30 each if you buy at least 10 of them.

Waiting to hear back from a local who is selling 3 S&W AR-15 assembled lowers with 3 pmags each at pre-panic prices, I'm #2 in line but I suspect I missed out on that. One for me, one for Dad and one for a neighbor. He offered me a stag lower if the 3 sell, but that means I have to still track down 2 more..

How does this topic relate to shotgun shells? I like to think my Mossberg 500 ATP 12ga. police riot gun is still the best defense if someone comes through the door... kinda' hard to miss you know!

At any rate it's probably been 15 years since I've purchased shotgun shells for this bad boy. I live in a dry climate but you guys got me wondering about the shelf life.

Store it in ammo cans with good rubber seals on it
Yeah, my shells are already stored that way, but it occurred to me that because of the way they are constructed shotgun shells are not nearly as well sealed from the environment as rifle and pistol ammo is with their hard brass casings hermetically sealed by the bullet.

...and it should last longer than you will.
Well in my case that may not be too hard! :)

What is the life of the US Constitution?

Will your children or your grandchildren be having this discussion when they are age 50?

That is the question.

According to a lot of liberals it is time to drive a stake in the Constitution now. In my view it is as good as the day it was written. We just need to clean up all the crap politicians have tried to do it in the last 240 years.

It gets worse. Before Christmas when I got some 9mm Blazer Brass just to shoot up it was $11.95 plus tax.
Today Remington 9mm was $43.75 with tax and they keep it out of sight until you ask for it.
I thought that was usually around $20!?

Wow. I bought 100 rounds of Remingtom 230 gr JHP .45 today for $63.00 and thought I got ripped. I did buy 2000 rounds of 9mm for $279 a few weeks ago which I thought was a screaming deal.

I've been stocking up with the Big 5 stores in California once a week. They're sticking to retail but they'll sell out of .223/5.56 and 22LR and cheaper 9mm within 2-3 hours of opening on restock.

They have a 5 box limit, but you can get 5 boxes of different brands of the same caliber.

Too bad to they don't stock larger boxes but there you go.

I bought some Golden Sabre JHP from CDNN around Christmas. Paid 13.99 for 9mm and 380 and 16.99 for 45 for 25 round boxes. Today I got an e-mail from them selling it BY THE CASE at 24.99 per box for the 45. That is $1/round. Also saw something on the internet about Walmart not ordering anymore ammo until the ban thing is determined. Called to talk to them about and the customer service rep would not discuss it at all. All she would say was anything about that would be on the corporate Walmart site. I went there and nothing was posted. Sent off an email to Walmart telling them that if they didn't continue to order and sell a perfectly legal product that isn't even part of the ban discussion they were themselves instituting a ban. I know Schumaer sent a letter to major retailers telling them to do this. I told Walmart that if they did do this they might as well get rid of their camo clothing and hunting/firearm accessories because the firearms crowd would go to other, more reliable sources for their needs. Hope it isn't true.

I think it could be that Walmart is having issues getting more supply from wholesalers believe it or not. Unlikely considering the size of walmart, but all you need is a small kink in the supply chain somewhere, like a component supplier running behind on primers, or a big defense/gov order coming into federal to throw things out of whack.

Heard from Turners that the CA DOJ is processing 6-10K DROS a day... and its been that way since black friday.

Nope, Walmart is complying with Schumer's request. Not ordering more ammo until the legislation issues settle out. Screw Walmart.

A person I work with was over in GJ on Monday, and they are out of ammo, but the clerk told her that ammo has been ordered for the store and they expect to get an order, hopefully soon. The asst. manager in sporting goods could not give her a date, but as far as they know in that store, ammo will be sold. They might put a limit of two boxes per customer. (They did the two boxes per customer limit when His majesty, King Obama took office; so that sounds normal for many stores.)

Hope they keep it coming. I have had half a dozen people tell me they were told by in store people that they were not allowed to order more ammo to restock the store. Big 5 told me they should get another order of ammunition in Monday.

Ammo prices have gone as nuts as gun prices have. I am picking up what I can when and where I can but I have a more than adequate supply.

.308 seems to be same price ~1 per round as it was 3-4 month ago. Biggest box I can find is only 40rounds, no more 500+ boxes.

Wrong time to go into the gun/ammo business. If the big guys like CTD and CDNN can't get product you would be at the bottom of the order list to get filled. I know there are huge orders out there that many of these guys don't have high hopes of getting filled.
