06 h3 intermediate steering shaft

Have been reading up on this as the gf's h3 will need a new intermediate steering shaft. Is it upper or lower in h3's that cr@p out?

Watched a slew of videos on you tube and have searched for awhile but not a lot of hummer h3 specific information as usual.

The gm oem part number is 19256702.
Is this correct?
Is there another alternative part at a less laughable price?
I checked dorman but can't figure it out.
Autozone says no part available.
Rock auto showed nothing but a confused server.lol.
Amazon zero.
Auto anything floor mats and chrome bobbles.

I want to say it was the upper one, with that said it was probably the lower shaft. I wonder why the whole assy couldn't be removed, cleaned and greased back up? Unless the stiction was from rusted components.

There is only one intermediate shaft...no upper or lower. It is telescopic and has about 2" of range. There is a pinch bolt on the column that clamps to one end of it, then a similar clamp on the other end where it attaches to the rack. I thought the GM part was around $90. You can build one from scratch using Borgeson parts but, it will cost more than $90. I have a couple laying around, if you need dimensions (left overs from SAS box swaps). I've heard of people replacing them but frankly...there isn't much to go bad, so I don't know what exactly constitutes a "bad" intermediate shaft. Its nothing more than a telescoping shaft with a U-joint on one end of it. If it telescopes, and it the U-joint is tight...its good.

Are you referring to the TSB for clunking/noise felt in the steering wheel and pedals? Mine does this but I haven't gotten a new shaft yet

Yeah, mine has the clunk on the brakes in cold weather. It really isn't too bad, and doesn't bother me much so I'm living with it. If it was on the output shaft of the engine and I had to feel it every time I pushed in the clutch then that would be a different story.

Yes she had it into the dealership last year and they concluded that the very annoying clunk in the steering wheel was intermediate shaft needing replacement.
I made sure to read as many threads as I could about this trouble on the different websites but alas lol there is some debate as to how to fix it.

I also have that annoying clunck in my steering, not always but often enough that I would like it fixed. It must be this, Im not sure if the Alpha uses the same steering shaft, but now I have to figure out what needs to be replaced.
