My Do It All Trailer build.....

I like documenting projects. The goal is a 4x6 trailer with 18" enclosed sides. I plan to eventually paint it to match and rhino line the interior. It'll get a cooler rack on the front, receivers front and rear so I can got between a pintle on the front and a standard coupler and do an extended tongue if need be. I haven't quite decided if I'm skinning it or putting the walls on the inside.

Ill probably do some kind of rack on top, but I'm not planning a lid.

The steel, axle, springs, ubolts, hangers and pintle were ordered today. The steel will arrive tomorrow and ill get the structure built over the next 2 weeks. The axle is custom length and had to be ordered in 6 lug.

I intend on TIG welding the entire thing,..... Unless I get bored or lazy.

The rough idea is the typical adventure type trailer, but I'm considering spending a lot of time on some fine details. I NEED the trailer, so it may be built in two stages... Functional, then trick.

I found a drawing a while back that I like and will be incorporating the saddle bags for certain.

Before I add the saddle bags, ill be into this trailer for about $600. Steel was $150. The axle, springs, hanger kit and ubolts were $175...including the custom length, 6 lug axle. Tires and wheels were $200. Only thing missing is a jack and coupler for a usable trailer.

If I powder coat the frame and paint to match the factory color, I'll be in it another $750. Rhino line is $250. So worst case scenario for building it myself is $1500.

I think there are a lot of nice camp/ utility trailers on the market. I understand why people would spend $5k, but I'd rather build it myself and spec nothing but American made parts, steel and my own sweat.

I'm glad to see the title "Do It All Trailer". Since I built mine two years ago...I have continually updated it and I'm surprised by how much use it gets. If it were permanently built as a camp trailer, it would be sitting 99% of the time and not doing me any good. I put a great deal of thought into making it "convertible" and I can quickly change its layout for whatever use I need it for. I'm going to update to a Max-Coupler later this year...

Can I get a few pics? I'm forever stealing good ideas and incorporating them into my own builds.

Nice work. Lots of cool details. Plenty of ideas to spark my own creativity.

My execution will be focused primarily on utility. This trailer will be used primarily to haul lumber and steel, with the occasional weekend trip to the river with my family.

Mine is 3sectional (~18" side,+18" extension,+18" cap) completely detachable from each other. AC/heater, 60 gal fuel tank, 30 gal grey water tank with electric pumps.

Slow progress. I can't seem to half ass anything. So everything has to be dead level, dead plumb. Off to get tires and argon for the TIG.

Ride height. Stupid axle is backordered another week. I won't have time to fabricate the tailgate and box til Monday as I have a wife and kid that expect my attention.

Still not convinced on the lack of A frame for the front. I will be welding in a cooler rack on the tongue. I'm just not sure it's stiff enough.

...looking good...nice work! :corn: FWIW, I've been following this M416-style fiberglass trailer build thread from concept, to preproduction, to now almost production phase. Great ideas in this thread and I love the modularity, versatility and price of this trailer. I've always wanted one but don't have the fab skills like you to build one...but in a kit, I think I can handle building one. :emb: http://tventuring.com/trailerforum/thread-119.html
