Worst breakage

Okay. We have the worst stuck thread going. Let's see what you ****ed up.

Notice the pin in the left holding the the axle tube in.
After running half the trail with a blown diff, going down the fire road and driving it to AAMCO the next day, after the tow home

Wait for it, not a happy diff. The axle was actually twisted in the aftermath

I don't have photos but the "worst" problem I've had was with the t-case on my truck in Moab this past October. The gears in the t-case would slip under load, causing a pretty nasty sounding "bang". -I limped the truck home from Moab driving like I had an egg between my foot and the gas pedal. The truck made it to Tustin Hummer, but barely.

I have 2 broken diffs, 1 tie rod, and 1 halfshaft.



no pics on the first diff and I have to find the tie rod...

I keep hoping I can find the internal bits (especially the gears) from a 4:1 case so the case I've got in my attic can live again.

Cracked a steering box bolt on John Bull, figured it was ok to make it home with 2 good ones left in it. Dropped it off at Tustin on the way home, stopped every 50 miles to check to make sure the bolts were holding up. Pretty dumb move. I made it to the dealer without incident. But the last 2 bolts went when mike was loading it onto the lift.

I now carry extra sets of bolts in baggies. If 1 goes, all 3 get replaced. That and my t-case grenading on my first off road trip, thats about it for trail carnage, oh and blowing up my a/c compressor that was on its last legs in Borrego Springs back in September.

Oddest carnage I had to help out with was Franco sheering his rear upper control arm in half on a trail in northern New Mexico. Lots of pounding with hammers and ratchet straps were used to get it back to the hotel in Colorado, we were able to get a new one overnighted to the motel and had it swapped out the net day.

someone ran over a rebar that was sticking up out of the concrete and bent it over. i didn't see it and i drove over it and then backup up. it caught the skid plate and ripped it right off. that makes me not have a lot of faith in the aluminum factory one, so i think i'll go aftermarket, if they make them....

Poked a little hole in the transfer case. Figured it out about 100 miles later.

My worst was probably bending a tie rod. Yeah, doesn't sound bad, but it was at 2:00 in the morning and on Pucker Hill in Last Chance Canyon.

I was also the victim of a blown t-case in Bishop, CA . . . twice. Fortunately, it only affected low range and I was able to drive home.

Maybe we need to start a list of people that lost a t-case in Bishop.

Mine was two broken tierods at the same time which ultimately caused both half shafts to grenade. Of course that was before the kryptonite steering setup and have not had any issues since.

Ouch! Nothing like breakage to spur nice upgrades

Yeah, $1200 in steering upgrades was well justified to cut down the time wrenching and wasting hours of fun on the trail. Some people love to brag about the crap they tear up and break, but I hate breaking stuff, because I wheel for fun with my family and if I'm wrenching no one is having fun.
