Winch mount help

Ok. Any of you Hummer Guru's our peeps with winch mounts want to help a fella out. Due to life circumstances, AKA a stroke I have horrible hospital bills that I am trying to pay off from various trips to the ER. I have had a brand new winch in the box from shortly before my stroke, 3 years now, just waiting to be put on. I cannot afford a already made one, unless someone has one for cheap, but need and want to put my winch on after three long years. So, can anyone hook me up with pics and dimensions to build my own. There is a steel/ scrap yard near me that I can buy my steel at and I think that have heavy duty presses also. I do offroad my rig, so I need this on... Not for looks. Please any help is appreciated......

Mine is mounted with a which plate which is attached to the brush guard. I'm sure that the easiest way is to buy a winch plate and weld mounts so you can mount it behind the tow hooks for strength

Thanks. I'm going to buy the one from Harbor freight and weld some mounts to go behind my toe hooks and brush guard.

Long time ago some of us had some frame reinforcement plates to go behind the tow hooks made up.

I believe Brodie came up with those.

I will have to look that up, but something you may want to look into.

Thanks Hunner. Wish I could buy a winch bumper but my medical bills from having the two strokes are killing my funds unfortunately.

I welded a winch plate in the manner you suggest. Works excellent.










a bit of notching, I welded the plate to the front horns and they're also bolted from the inside.... it hasn't moved, and I've done some limit-of-winch-with-snatch-block pulls....

If you want more room in that area, you can un-bolt that small vertical brace and re-install it on top of the AC line. This keeps the AC line away from the winch, and it does not require you to mess with the refrigerant charge. You may want to slightly re-shape the aluminum elbow where the line penetrates the core support. This can be done with your bare hands. Be careful however, as you can cause a crack in the aluminum tubing if you overdo it.

Can you go without the small vertical brace if you reinforce the upper and lower cross members? If it could be removed and the mounting tabs cleaned back it would open up some nice space for a front mounted fan or trans cooler.

A fellow Hummer wheeler ended up in a similar situation as you. He put in a front hitch receiver and put the winch in a cradle. He could then move the winch to front or rear as necessary - or even secure it inside the Hummer. He had an H2, but they make those front receivers for the H3 as well.
