I'm on iPhone right now and my girlfriend got a GalaxyS3. I'm really impressed by it and most likely will do a switch. Do, there are two things that stops me. One is that it is much bigger then iPhone and I don't care about the huge screen (you can't see anything on it anyway). And second one is, on the first week that my girl got it, she cracked the screen. It is aether that she put it in the rear pocket in here jeans or when she dropped it from the lounge-chair in the pool(it is less then a foot drop). Both are unacceptable conditions for cracking the screen. I put my iPhone thru much more abuse than that... Besides that the phone is awesome.

I just replaced my Droid X with a Droid Razr M. Love the android OS, like the custom screens and widgets I can use. The Razr M is awesome, same size screen as the X, but smaller package and much faster camera.

My X had some black spots on the screen that wouldn't go away.

Iphone 4 on straighttalk.com. It lets me use the iphone for $45/month with unlimited everything, using the at&t network. I like Android better-- have 2 android tablets, but this plan saves me some serious cash.

Have had the Gz'One Commando for over a year now - love it! Like the features such as water proof, freeze proof, drop proof, etc. since I'm out in the elements like all the time.

Iphone 4s...no complaints. I beat the crap out of my phones and highly recommend the lifeproof case. It really helps my iPhone survive hell.

If you really looking for the phone that you can beat up and abuse get this one.

This may vary depending on your carrier but I don't think you have to make *any* changes to your plan to upgrade your phone, at least not on AT&T. I have seen friends upgrade their iPhones and not made a single change to their plan, and thereby keeping their unlimited plan.

I have the Casio G'ZOne Commando Android with Verizon. It's not the fastest by any means, but it does the job and takes what I give it. Its been dropped on concrete, under water, in the rain, in the snow, near frozen, and just keeps going. I've smacked the screen really hard a few time and thought sure it was going to be broken, but not a scratch.

I have Verizon and if you use an upgrade to get a new phone they make you change your plan and won't allow you to keep unlimited data. They also make you pay a $30 fee to upgrade, these are the two main reasons I still have the iPhone 4

Verizon has discontinued grandfathering in people for the unlimited plans. The only way to keep it, if you still have it, is to pay full retail for a new phone. It pricy but that's what i plan to keep doing. I don't know what situation is with other carriers.


The typical user won't use more than 3 gigs of data tops but since I use my phone almost more than my computer to stay up to date, i want to keep it.

I didn't have the unlimited with Verizon but I did have a 4GB plan from when they were promoting LTE. When I upgraded I made sure that I was not moved to one of the new family share plans. It's a tough call but a $600 phone is worth about $25 per month over 24 months. For some people it makes sense to pay full price; others might benefit from getting a higher rate plan and a discounted phone.

Do you happen to know if you were to buy a newer phone (let's just say from a friend for sake of the discussion) and just have them switch your service from your old phone to new phone wouldn't that work? like buy an iPhone 5 not from Verizon but from someone used and just have it switched to your account? That way you don't lose unlimited data and get a new phone?

Yes, thats essentially what buying the full retail price does. You buy it direct from apple for example or off of amazon for the full 700 bucks or used from your friend. The trick is to not renew your plan. As you said just have service switched over. I would also recommend switching the service yourself or go to a registered Verizon store, but not a corporate store, the are real @&%$# there lol

So like i said, just have service switched and don't renew anything. Also if your phone breaks make sure you switch to another smart phone not a regular one, so you have that constant data stream going.

I still have a $#!tty BB Storm. I can't really complain - it does what I need it to do, and my 2 year contract is long since expired. It's on it's second battery now (unlike iPhones, I didn't have to toss it when the battery lost most of it's capacity) and still works just fine. I won't replace it until it dies, gets destroyed, is no longer supported, or I decide to waste money on an Android based phone that will be obsolete before it even arrives at my door
