I am in the process of replacing a half shaft. I am stuck and can't get the bolt out that holds the upper
ball joint to the control arm. I got the nut off and the bolt is suppose to just tap out. No luck even with a BFH and PB blaster

Does it spin freely with the nut off? It's probably good a seized up in there. I had a similar issue when I tried removing my rear shackle hardware. It took A LOT of penetrating oil and spinning it and working it a little at a time...

well after an hour of PBblaster and impact wrenches I was able to break it lose with a big ole breaker bar. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I am glad I did not have to do this on the trail. lt is a pretty straight forward job but it would have been nice to have a second set of hands. the steering knuckle gets pretty heavy trying to line things up. I know if I ever have to do it again it will go a lot faster.

Yeah, it's a quick job (30 minutes) once you've done if a few or ten times, and if the bolts and parts come apart freely.
