Upgrading alternator

Not much difference in cost of 200 or 245 amp alternator. Should I go for the big boy? I am in the process of switching to an efan setup and dual batteries. Also considering adding a decent sized inverter and the extra amps could come in handy.

Also curious if the pcm will restrict the output of the new alternator. My understanding is the stock alternator peaks around 125 amps.

Cant tell if you have an I5 or an Alpha.
Stock Alpha is 145 Amps. With a proper dual fan setup (you will need a big boy dual fan as the alpha clutch fan pulls a great amount of air, main reason the alphas/tbss came with clutch fans as lesser draw efans couldnt keep up with cooling on such a small radiator) you are talking about a 50 amp draw for the dual fans.

Anyway, keep in mind that alternator output is different depending on engine rpm and alternator temp. A 250 amp alternator will produce ~ 210 amps when the engine bay is hot at 2000 rpm, 140 amps at idle!

I've been running this 250 amp alternator for a few years and it has worked flawlessly. Especially because I do a some heavy winching and only run one battery.

Where did you get an alternator like that?

Holly molly these things are pricey might have to get one and have it ready for when mine craps out, since I'm pretty sure mine still the oem one from 07.

if you look at the quality though these are going to last probably the lifetime of the vehicle and provide more power!
