UCP oem vs. aftermarket

As above. How much of a difference is there between the two. I also understand there are factory sliders so I guess I'll ask the same question on them as well. Thanks for any input

There's not much on the aftermarket for UCP and there's not much stock on the OEM UCP - challenges in both directions. Did you have a specific aftermarket UCP you wanted feedback on? Same thing for the sliders - there are OEM, Rocky Roads, Ridge Demon and probably a couple of others.

It seems rocky road is the best according to some of the posts I've read. as far as UFP is concerned most searches I do brings me to factory units. I suppose they are effective. We will see

Ridge Demon rock bashers are the best sliders, but they are also triple the price of the OEM sliders. I also don't think he's making any currently, but I may be wrong.

There is not much aftermakret support for UCP, you have the OEM/GM Accessories/Boulder Accessories. The two aftermarket ones that I can think of (Rasta and DOI) are no longer avaliable.

for sliders I would go Rocky road or ridge demon. Ridge demon may be expensive but definitely the best.

I have the OEM UCP. I looked at the install instructions and pictures of the aftermarket one (forget who made it). Other than a slight difference in install instructions I couldn't really tell the difference. Not sure if that helps or not, but design and appearance wise they are essentially the same.

I would assume you are referring to the Boulder Accessories one? Pretty sure it is identical to the OEM/GM Accessories UCP.

Here is the DOI (DeFelice Offroad Innovations) which to my understanding, is no longer being produced.

Here is the one that was made by Rasta 4x4

The BA was nearly identical to OEM. Biggest difference is that it often did not fit without modification or lots of cursing

I thought BA was the chosen distributor for the GM products when they began to phase out the dealers exclusive deal.
Then at some point after they dumped a bunch of inventory that stuff appeared on EBay.
My long term goal has been to make some with improvements I have come up with on a little different design but I can't compete with the fire sale of inventory that is out there. I had hoped to have it done by now and ready when the market opened up.
This was supposed to be done a long time ago but as usual I can't get the ball rolling on several other projects. Once again one day this week was supposed to be my appointment to work on the racks and light pods. It could still happen, I'm trying to be patient, but I'm not too good at that.
Don't hold your breath.

I guess it is about time to try this but I also want the spare rack and my light pods. grrrrr
I'm working on some but I can't rush to market so there may be other options before I do. I have all my old stuff layed out and plans drawn up for the new but once again I got to wait on the fab shop. I thought about making a few but the labor for me to do all that and gather up stuff cuts in to my wheeling time. If I get these going these guys can knock it out and I will invest in an order after I get one fitted and make sure it all comes out right.
If somebody else does it first, so be it. I'm not trying to make it a secret just trying to make it better.
At this point I would recommend if you get the OEM design you invest in 4speeds plates to supplement it.
The transfer case needs it and on an Alpha you have some exposed fuel lines.

The biggest issue with full skids is the extra weight. I think this may be why the stock GM UCP is made from tubing. Whatever you come up with, put some holes in it. This saves some weight and also keeps the goo from piling up on top of it. That DOI piece could probably survive a IED...but, its gotta weigh over a 100lbs (probably 150lbs with a load of mud on it). Last thing my 5-cly needs is more weight. I'll be building some custom plates after my SAS is done. I'm seriously considering aluminum. Its certainly not as strong but, its super-lightweight and it doesn't rust. I might be willing to trade off the strength, even if I have to occasionally pull the plates and pound the dents out of em. My thinking is: I'm looking for something to stop rocks from penetrating into my tranny/t-case area...NOT necessarily something to intentionally drag across rocks all day. Like a bullet proof vest...once its compromised, it needs repair or replacement. The trade-off is you don't have to wear a steel suite of armor around.

Also, don't forget you have a steering wheel. If it looks like there is something on the trail that will ruin your day...go around it. If you can't go around it...back out. If you can't back out...well, you probably shouldn't have followed those $900 jeeps down into this nightmare!

You just created the first piece of THORparts apparel! You need to get that printed on some T-Shirts!
