H3 Trans slipping plus weird leak?

I noticed a little weirdness once or twice yesterday while shifting. Didn’t pay much attention. Today it slipped while pulling away from a traffic light, then just nosed over like it was about to stall. It’s pulling, but the RPMs are higher than normal and you can hear it like a higher than engine noise pitched “wreeeee” sound. I nursed it home and popped the hood to check the fluid. It’s got some, and it’s the right color. I did see this though that I haven’t noticed before. I think it’s oil, but it’s too hot to touch and it’s pouring rain. Ideas?

I first thought it was an oil bypass or something, but apparently it's EGR related, this is the gasket for that: http://www.fme-cat.com/overlays/part-detail.aspx?brandId=FL&pNum=72755&partType=EGR Valve Gasket

After a bunch of googling I found out that it’s the AIR pump check valve.

Not sure why there’d be oil in that area unless it’s squirting out from under the head or the head is cracked. Hopefully neither.

I don’t think it’s related to the trans, but alarming none the less.

How many miles on the rig?

Don’t remember for sure but I think it’s in the 170k range. I know that’s a long haul on an original trans (assuming this one is not rebuilt.) I bought it used.

Update on this... It turns out the weird oil leak was transmission fluid. How did it get there you ask? The bracket that's supposed to secure the transmission dipstick tube to the block is gone. I guess the previous owner broke it somehow. Anyway, when the bracket was removed from the tube it tore a hole in the tube. I decided to do a fluid and filter change to see what would happen since I threw a quart of Lucas Trans Fix in it and it did the opposite. Wouldn't pull at all.

The filter was terribly black and the fluid was pretty dark too. Didn't smell burned though. No idea how old the fluid was. The best I can figure is that the filter was clogged and it was possibly low on fluid or clogged vent or something that caused the fluid to climb the dipstick tube and shoot out of the hole in the tube spraying onto the block.

Anyway, I replaced the filter and added 5 quarts of fluid. I've been driving it for almost 2 weeks and it's been solid. Shifts better than it ever did too. Maybe I dodged a bullet on this one.
