What you can't see in the photos is that this Hummer was purchased by us from an insurance company. This H3 was claimed as a loss due to water damage.

The water level inside the car was just enough to wet the carpet. The carpet has been removed, cleaned and thoroughly dried. Needless to say everything is working perfectly.

not sure how much of this is truth

Yeah, I don't want a Sandy-damaged vehicle. Notice that they neglect to mention it was salt water that flooded that truck.

Hey look at the bright side: It says it has a FULL POWER engine..... that's nice to know.... You'd hate to get, say, a half power engine.... :)

I had to fix a few water damaged cars and this one don't look bad. The only thing with salt water, you never know what you will get. But in any case, if you want to hold on the truck it is a good deal. (You will have hard time to resale it later). But if I would get it, first thing I would've stripped it down, check and clean all the wiring and computers. Wiring should be good to fix, but if any sign of water on the computer I would just replace it right away. It probably will cost you few grants but for that price it is a good deal.

Once we got a Lexus with "water damage" You could actually clearly see the line with level water by the green stripes on the rims. The cars was siting in the water with front higher then rear. All front was out of the water and only the rear was under the water just over the rockers. There was a sign of water on the one side of the rear passenger seats and the other side was dry. We got the carpet out, cleaned it, dried it and got it back in. That was it, no signs of rust or damage. It was good to go. We made good money on reselling it overseas.

Cheap? $23,900 is hardly a deal...especially for one with a salvage title. This was probably bought at an insurance auction for around $7500, and the guy put another $1500 in it for fluids, carpet cleaning, and fixing check-engine codes. It's a $14,000 truck max. At that price the guy is still doubling his money...$23,900 is downright comical...(which is why its just sitting there with no offers). There is another salvage-titled red H3 in Ohio that has been on eBay for months with no offers. It was in a building next to a fire and the paint got blistered, and some plastic got melted. He keeps re-listing it for $15,000...like that's a bargain or something.

Most people don't realize that there is a giant "used-car machine" in place here in the U.S. Its a nation-wide network that deals in wholesale used cars. The buying public has no clue how this system works, and the fact that people think $23,900 for an H3 is some sort of deal...is proof. If you really want a deal...pay the $500 registration fee...get your dealer license...go to an auction. You'll see what Hummers really sell for.

I'll probably have a plain white van sitting outside my house and hear strange clicks on my telephone, for posting this.

Yeah...thats what I thought. The guy is flipping it, and there's nothing wrong with that....there's a sucker born every day.

BTW...07Custom. The dealer you bought your white one from paid around $12K for it at an auction. I know because I seriously considered bidding on it. The previous owner was a young kid and he had it listed on Ebay for $30K...which obviously went nowhere. He had bought it with the SAS already done (and probably financed it)....Well you know how that story usually ends. Eventually, he realized he was up-side down on it, and let the bank have it back. That's when it showed up at the auction, and the dealer you bought it from got it there. If cars could talk...we'de all be surprised to here their stories!

Another trick that is often used is setting the parking brake while taking pictures. This way you can hide high-dollar failures from appearing on the DIC display. Nice.

HAHA Dang. Well that's good to know I guess. I just want my truck to be "fixed". It's drive-able and not acting up in any way which is good, but always in the back of my mind are the steering and ABS. I've been hitting up every message board for off-roading in hopes of finding a jeep guy or someone here in New Mexico competent enough to help me out.

Actually, it says, "VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE FLOOD DAMAGE IN HURRICANE SANDY"

I didn't know that wet carpets were severe damage! :whaa:

Although I would never trust a car salesman (I've worked at a dealership), just the carpet being wet is plausible. In a major disaster like this the insurance companies are quick to wright things off. I would go over it in detail before buying it and would not pay close to the asking price.
