Lesson # 1:

* U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
* Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
* New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
* National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
* Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income: $21,700
* Money the family spent: $38,200
* New debt on the credit card: $16,500
* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
* Total budget cuts: $385

Got It ???

OK, now Lesson # 2:

Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say: You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood....and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do ......

Raise the ceilings, or pump out the crap?

Your choice is coming Nov. 2012 :am7:

Two words: we're ****ed.

Basically, we're in a position worse than Greece and Spain. The only reason we aren't facing a similar fate is because the world uses our currency as a default. The Chinese could easily thump us economically if they weren't artificially holding their currency low to promote exports.

Eh, Greece doesn't have anything major going for them beyond tourism. Hard to compare the US to a country like that.

Back in the 1990's we should have had no tax cuts and paid down the deficit.. but thats the past. 2 wars that are still unpaid for doesn't help the situation.

Paul Ryan is an interesting choice, but his policy on Medicare in the past isn't going to fly with seniors. They're going to have to start clarifying that position pretty quickly, because an easy opening for the Democrats is to pull out the "Romney is going to cut your medicare" boogiey man...

The only way to shake off the debt may to cut loose the inflation demon. It will make for a crappy decade, but ease the debt. Is that what we are heading for?

Austerity is going to have to come into play at some point. Not Greece level austerity, but imposed either by cutting services (Republican) or overtaxing (Dems).

I gave BIGUNIT a thanks because he did put it into an understandable perspective..good job BU.

But I disagree with cutting off our noses now to spite our face to get to a more balanced budget..The trouble with that kind of radical fix is everyone that can suck it up and tighten their belts has done so ..However, So many can not!, because they are basically already struggling now..The fix cannot be done overnight or in one term of an administration..remember, we didn't get into this big of debt overnight either..it took time and a fix will take even longer...

#1..cut back on all the social entitlements that encourages people to stay home and be lazy on our dime..Make drug testing mandatory for welfare...Stop buying friends and allies with foreign aid that will always hate us..Like Pakistan for example...Iraq owes us a lot of payback or at least free oil for a very long time..same with Libya and all other Countries we protect..time to pay the piper..

Just doing these simple things will reverse the debt almost overnight..As soon as we get to hell out of Afghanistan and they pay us back with Lithium, we'll be right side up again..

Simple sh1t like that..so we the average Joe will not have to live on Ramen noodles and a tighter budget more than we already are on..

Price of gas keeps going up...How about a max pump price of $3.00/gal nation wide?..that would spur the economy tremendously.

And last..

Of course there is always...

Wait for it....

here it comes.....

Ready..........

Legalize POT!..Control and tax it like alcohol.

Unfortunately the solution is going to be big tax increases and big spending cuts. The problem is too massive to be solved by half or short term measures and the solution is generational in length, not a term or two in Congress. Obama already robbed Medicare of 700 billion, yes with a B, so he can't stand on a soap
Box and hit Romney over the head with the taking from the seniors bit. The seniors in this country are the ones most responsible for the prosperity this country has enjoyed for the last 50 years. Our kids and their kids are going to have to suffer and bear the brunt of the spending orgy of the last 8 years. Republicans and Democrats alike contributed to the problem.
from what I can see though it will take Republicans to fix it. It is way too hard to find a fiscally conservative Democrat to think that they can solve the problem. Not saying that Republicans have all the answers or don't have some stink on them in this whole mess because they do, but at least they have a substantial number that understand fiscally conservative practice.
