Seat Belt Fix?

So y'all are gonna love this. Took my hyper active Lab to the grocery store with me the other day and had to grab a few items. Well in the 10 mins I was in there he decided to chew through my driver's spot seat belt. Like really, the one I HAVE TO HAVE TO BE LEGAL, damn dog!:swear:

Does anyone know how to replace the seat belt, never had to consider it till now. And how about the rear seat belts, he got about half way through one of them too, on the right side.

Guess he got anxious cuz I left him there for 10 mins. Can't decide if thats loyalty to me in a hyper form, or him just being a lil $hit!

LOL! If/when you get pulled-over, you can always say: "...but officer, really, my dog ate my seat belt!"...just like the old school homework excuse. :thumbs:

Dang.... That might be a challenge since I'm pretty sure they are tied into the airbags......

I can't imagine it being that bad of a job. I think the whole system is mechanical and isn't tied to any system though I could (and usually am) wrong. I think the airbag tie in would be in the seat cushions (measuring weight and occupancy) and the seat belt buckle end (measuring whether belt is buckled), which appears to be a part of the seat assembly but can be ordered separately.

Should be removing interior trim and 2-3 bolts using larger torx bits.

Yes and no on tie to sir (air bag) system.
Just be careful with retractor assembly. It is designed to set off small charge to cause it to retract, tightening the belt more, in an accident.

Just be careful does not denote going to a dealer.

Remove the SIR fuse, and then all is well when removing the retactor and seat belt assembly. (In fact, if you like exploding things...like I do....take the old one out to a field, place it about twenty feet away, attach two wires to the connector, and after making sure no one is around, jump the wires to a 12 volt power source and watch the sucker jump. It's called a pretensioner that, like I hinted at earlier, is designed to ignite and cause the retractor to retract more than it is at the time of an accident. So when the air bags go off, so does this to hold you better in your seat.)

Very easy to replace.

CautionS FROM SERVICE MANUAL:
When carrying an undeployed inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner:

Do not carry the seat belt pretensioner by the wires or connector.

Carry the seat belt pretensioner by the piston tube, keeping hands and fingers away from the cable.

Make sure the open end of the seat belt pretensioner piston tube points away from you and other people.

Do not cover the seat belt pretensioner piston tube opening with your hand.

Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.

Center trim panel just pulls out with plastic retainers under the panel. So just pull.

All bolts are torqued to
52 N·m (38 lb ft)

We handled these all the time in engineering and never had a mishap and still have all my fingers. I was originally saying that it was part of the SIR system...technically.

I know what you mean.......... Its Law here that dogs in vehicles need to be restrained.

In my previous 4wd my dog had a harness and I strapped him in to the rear seatbelt. Well I must have gone through at least 5 seatbelts as the dog would chew them to get out of it.

The first one we got the dealer to replace $700 (ouch) but after that I bought a manual to work out how to change them & bought from wreckers. I got a discount from the wreckers as well I was coming back that often I think the first one cost me $90 but in the end I was getting them for $45. (Took me ages to do the first one but in the end I could change it in 10 mins flat)
