I have met some really cool hummer owners and have tried to recruit them over here. Some of them have a good amount of knowledge, a cool rig, or just a nice guy who wants to learn some more. Usually they dont make it over here though...whats the trick. I remember some of you were great recruiters. What do you do? Threaten them??:)

Chris, just tell them we have free pie... :giggle:

But seriously, in recruiting in the past I've relied on two methods: Handing the owner a business card/introducing myself to the owner, or putting a card under a wiper blade. When talking to a real person, I always make sure to have my phone so I can show them pictures of my truck if it's not nearby. This way they know you're a legit Hummer-nut and not just some creeper at Walmart trying to swipe their Oreos when they're not looking. (Ok, that last part is speculation...but you get the point. ;))

Some people, you'll find, simply drive a Hummer to go from A-to-B, and have little interest in joining a club/a forum/socializing with anybody at all. (As sad as that is.) I've gotten some really confused looks when introducing myself to people -- they're like, "yeah I drive a Hummer, so what?" It's like they've forgotten they drive an enthusiast's vehicle and they think they're driving a Lexus RXBland... A lot of recruiting trouble is simply the person you're dealing with, and nothing more. Finally, some folks just don't understand what a forum is, and they don't have interest in them. Most of us are on these forums to socialize, of course there is a fair amount of data sharing and so forth, but primarily, a forum is nothing more than a place to "talk shop".

tl;dr The best you can do is be genuine, smile, shake their hand, give them a card, and tell 'em to have a nice day.

PS: For those of you curious, tl;dr is means "too long; didn't read". I just learned that the other day. ;) Happy recruiting!

Good advice. I definitely love the looks I sometimes get when I show tons of enthusiasm and I get a response like it does great in the rain or my dogs like it because H2s are spacious. I think most so cal guys will agree with me on this but 9/10 the person who has a hummer that isn't all chrome still isn't a true enthusiast and I think that's when I get crazy looks.

On the other hand I met a guy with the plates "bajabum" with a leveled H3. He is very enthusiastic and does alot of work down in baja for the race and has even had conversations with rod hall. Btw he told me rod loves the H3s to death. :) but even though this guy is an enthusiast I don't think he is tech savvy. He's an old school guy

I have talked to quite a few Hummer owners that just didn't have any desire to do anything more than drive their trucks. Putting a scratch on it would be unthinkable. I usually at least get interest because the people seem to like to talk to people that use/ know about the trucks but I agree 9/10 just aren't into like we are. I experienced the same thing in NCCC, NCRS and the Ferrari Club. As hard as it is for me to understand a lot of people just drive a car for transportation, they have no interest in clubs, forums, racing, wheeling, showing, wrenching.............

I take my truck to car shows all the time and plan to leave the business cards on my windows. That way people that are interested can grab one. No need to bother people that aren't interested. I prefer to have people ask me, rather than imposing myself on them.

Met a guy last week with a 06 Green H3, Gobi rack, a heck of a lot of red dirt and under the dirt you could see a lot of Alrock type pinstripping, and Texas plates. Asked hm if he was on an forums and his reply was right to the point. Too many arseholes. He did say he was not in Moab to do the hard trails; had no interest to do trails like Hell's, Fins 'N Things, etc. He uses the H3 for camping trips and usually in dispersed areas.

As for recruiting. I'll mention a site, but that is it. If they don't want to visit or join, I can understand their feeling.
