I noticed the H3 had a hot oil smell (a drip of oil on the exhaust), and once parked, quickly saw it was marking its territory with little drops. Saw that the entire underside from the oil pan back to the rear diff was oil soaked. At first, I thought it was motor oil from the smell, but ended up being axle lube. Once I pulled off the skid, I quickly found the culprit. The diff vent tube had about a 1 inch crack right at the barb and was spraying out oil. I suspect it was kinked at the fitting when the new diff was installed a couple years ago.
No apparent damage. I changed the oil because I do ford quite a bit-- almost weekly in fact to get to a remote piece of our property. Fluid still looked fine, but better to be safe than sorry.
