Yesterday I recieved my new 12V compressor from Low Range Off-Road, http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/superflow-mv-90-mega-air-compressor-mv90.htmlI searched all over and they had the best price anywhere. I have been waiting since May to get it, as they have been backordered for a long time. I finally ordered it about two weeks ago and was told they would be in last week, and here it is! I will try to keep this review as simple and easy to understand as possible.
Why the MV90:
I was impressed with H3slate's Superflow MV50. If the MV90 performs as well as his MV50, it will be an awesome value.
Cost:
Low Range Off-Road's price is $131.50. Total shipped to Washington was $151 even.

Max amp draw 45 A
Max air flow 6400 CIM, or 3.7 CFM
Max pressure 150 PSI
Max continuous operating time 40 min @ 40 psi @ 75*F
What's included:
The unit comes in a decent nylon zippered bag with carry handles. It's not combat grade, but it is sufficient. The inside has a dividing panel making two separate spaces, one for the compressor, and one for the hose.
24' yellow coil hose. One end has a proprietary quick-coupler that attaches to the compressor. I think the fittings can be changed out for a standard ones. I will update this soon, once I confirm this. The other end has a screw on air chuck with integral pressure gauge.
Needle and two nozzle adaptors for airing up balls, floaties, etc. (this is what really sold me on this unit! :wink: )
The unit itself; first impressions:
I must say, I am fairly impressed. The fit and finish on this unit is very good. Everything is well put together and tight, and the paint/powder coat is very good. Not the normal "imported look". The cables have large heavy duty aligator clips, and the copper wires are soldered to the clips. The clips also have red and black rubber covers over the whole exterior of them. The compressor is mounted to a base plate with rubber mounts, and there are rubber feet on the base. The motor has a rocker switch that is encased inside a clear rubber bubble, presumably to keep dust/moisture out. Nice touch. It also has a resettable overload breaker. Also a nice touch. The pump has a brass pressure relief valve.
How does it perform:
Superflow claims it will air a 37" tire from 25 psi to 35 psi in under two minutes. I never air down to just 25 psi, so this means nothing to me. So I set out to test it for my own real world application.
Test conditions:
Tire size 37"x12.50" R17. Positive aligator clip hooked to the "jumper post" in the H2 engine compartment, ground clip hooked to the aluminum alternator mount, as specified by Hummer for jump starting. Engine running with all lights, radio, and heater fan turned off to minimize power draw. Pressures verified with Slime digital pressure gauge. A notation on the MV90 gauge states accuracy @ 60 PSI is +- 4 PSI.
Goal:
Air tires from 15 PSI to 40 PSI.
Check consistancy/accuracy of the MV90 gauge.
First test:
I aired down one tire to 15 psi. I hooked up the MV90 as specified above and aired the tire. Each time I stopped to check pressure I also stopped the stop watch. I also noted how the MV90 gauge correlated to my Slime gauge.
Result:
I noted that while pumping the MV90 guage read roughly 10 PSI high. After shutting the unit off it would settle to within a few PSI of my Slime reading.
When it read 50 PSI running I shut it off and the MV90 gauge settled to 44 PSI. My Slime reading was 41.5 PSI. Elapsed time from 15 PSI to 41.5 PSI was 3 min. 50 sec.
Second test:
I aired down all four tires to 15 PSI, and set out to air all four back up. Through this test I aired each tire until the MV90 gauge read 50 PSI while pumping, disconnected the hose, checked the pressure with the Slime gauge, installed the valve cap, and moved on to the next tire. I did not rush at all, or try to hurry. I conducted this test at a normal pace that I would use airing up after a trail.
Result:
Stopping each tire right when the MV90 gauge hit 50 PSI I got a reading of exactly 41.5 PSI in all four tires. Total elapsed time to air all four tires from 15 PSI to 41.5 PSI was 18 min. 45. sec. Doing the math from the first test of 3 min. 50 sec. to air one tire, that would mean 15 min. 20 sec. of pumping time, and 3 min. 25 sec. for hooking/unhooking the hose, checking pressure, installing valve caps, and moving from tire to tire.
Other observations:
During the second test the power cable bacame pretty warm, but not too hot to touch and the insulations never started to feel "soft." The first foot and a half of air hose at the compressor end did get quite hot, and was about too hot to touch. This first part of the hose is made of a black rubbery material, different from the yellow plastic hose. I imagine this is because of the heat issue.
The motor and compressor head both were fairly warm, but neither was even close to being too hot to touch.
I would describe the sound of the compressor as very "smooth" and tight. I was quite impressed with how quiet it was. Carrying on a conversation standing right beside it is not a problem at all.
Overall, I am very impressed with the MV90 right out of the box. In fact, I can't think of anything negative to say about it. Sure, it could come with a little heavier duty bag and standard air quick coupler, but both work fine and do the job. Only time will tell on the ultimate test of longevity/reliability, but if the MV90's outward appearance and intitial performance are any indicator, I think it will do very well.
And of course, some pictures. I will replace these with some better ones once I have a chance to get it out in the light.
