Overseas Contractor Job High Risk & Regular Labor.

Doesn't anybody here have or has had personal or third person experience with overseas contrator jobs.
I am contemplating on going into this business, but so far all online research I done has yield little to none insight info about this career. I mean I wouldn't have expect any less due to the job description. Anyways if anyone has some info and is willing to shine some light I would really appreciate that. I swapped words with some of these contractor personnel while in Afghanistan but never really asked them to much about this career how one come to get into this, but now I wish I did. Some of the names that comes to mind, and I have already done some research and explore is KBR, Academi, Fluor.

I don't know I haven't heard anything about that, but I don't think the contractor industry is going anywhere any time soon.

Private contractors have become an integral part of overseas security and operations. Hired by The CIA, DoD, State, etc they will be around for a long time. Lots of overseas based companies too. They also hire lots of instructors to train and evaluate prospective hire, LE and private citizens. Seems to be some turnover in who is considered top tier. The names you mentioned have been around a long time. Academi was Xe which was Blackwater. I am sure there are a few on here that can give you in depth insight into working for these companies.

I'm leaning more towards security, high value target and psd, due to my background and experience, but I'm aware this category is hard to get, since there a lot more people out there with a lot more training and actual job description certification than Me. I have your regular infantryman skill sets running thru the bushes and conducting patrols and all that comes with being a infantry man (psd for generals and but what I love doing more was being a door kicker), combat life saver. I also have 2 years of infantry scout, and sniper training, but not certification for the last two, since I just learned and was taught by the sniper we had attached to out scout teams I have 2 years of experience on this fields while being active duty. and even now that I'm doing a POG job with the army reserves (Petroleum Supply specialist) I have picked up additional set of skills on handling different types and grades of petroleum based products, as well I have had the chance to learned and drive the big cisterns and cargo rigs. Anyways I just want to get my boots at the doors of this industry and once I'm there and explore decide what I like and what I don't like. For the time being I already looked into some high value targeting bio protection I'm going to start to take more combat and bodyguard related courses.

I know of a interpreter contracted by the CIA that gets 110k plus Benny's . It's also tax free if he does a 13 mo hitch. My old neighbor who was laid off picked up a electrician gig in the Mid East. 130k,tax free if he stayed 13 mo.

Its tax free if he spends 330 out of 365 consecutive days overseas. You do not have to start in Jan/Feb to get it either. You can claim the exemption on good faith if you reasonabling expect to complete the time in the second year. For example starting in March or starting in June and filing in March having only a short time left to complete the 330 days.

I don't mind being overseas for more than 18+ month regardless of where it might be...I adapt to my environment that easy...i know it sounds cliché but "only while being in the battlefield I feel truly alive".

My buddy is a contractor overseas. Has been doing it for a few years now. He loves it. Only comes back to the US for about 2 weeks a year. Any other time off he spends in other countries. In the Marines he did multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And that's exactly what I am aiming for right now...have found some contracts offers now just working on getting certifications and more training.

Most PSS jobs right now require PSS certification and at least 2 years experience. The market has been flooded and thus companies can be much more selective. Best of luck.

One thing I forgot, I would look into getting a base security gig first. Like anything ,get your foot in the door and it becomes easier for the company to pay for your certification that way. Not Martin you gain valuable connections and fluff
