A couple of years ago when I was getting up to speed on offroading I had taken notes from a lot of various threads on things of note/ to remember. I recently found it & figured I would post it up.
It's like a new Wiki page - it will be corrected and disputed but I figured I would post it up. If this stuff is already on another thread it can be moved.
Crawling 4lo 1 locked
Hill climbs 4lo 2 locked
Long hill climbs with loose dirt 4lo 3 lock or 4 hi 2 lock
4 hi lock requires hacking into harness, you can make it all plug n play/ switch back
Air down increases traction - traction = broken parts watch the skinny pedal
Try to keep vehicle raked forward - the rake is important simply because whatever you can push the front over, the rear being higher should have no problem clearing it
RAD1 recommended for H3T 30% lateral = 20 degrees
60% fwd/back
Key offroad Replacement parts
- serpentine belt` - steering gear rack
- inner tie rod - half shafts (2)
- outer tie rod - rear axle shaft
- rack bracket & bushings - rack & pinion

panty hose = temp. accessory belt, compression bandage, pre-filter in dusty areas
when off roading - place largest obstacle you must conquer directly in front of your tire
When deep fording water (that you know the depth of), enter slowly, gain a few miles an hour, back off of the throttle and then get right back to the same speed. Will create a bow wave in front of you
Use a grease pencil and mark where your wheel weights are on your rims.
Always check what's on the other side of a hill before cresting the top
Always lay a jacket, large towel, floor mate, etc. over the top of a winch cable when winching
Always bring extra drinking water and first aid kit
Keep your thumbs and fingers outside of the steering wheel
Bring a bar of soap - rubbing a bar of soap on a leaking gas tank will seal the leak
Bailing wire, duct tape, pantyhose, and a big hammer can fix just about anything
Epoxy putty can be used to seal gashed oil pans, a hole in a gas tank or radiator, repair a stripped bolt, and more
Spare fluids: engine oil, brake fluid, coolent, transmission fluid, water, power steering fluid, gear oil
Have a 5 gallon bucket for a tool carrier, a fluid catcher, a water carrier, etc.
