Hey Southern Hummer Folks,

The official summer meetup here at "the beach" in Wilmington, NC (zip 28405) will be Saturday, June 7 beginning at 9 am.

We will begin the day at Cars & Coffee here in Wilmington. We had 4-5 Hummers last year and we had a great time. Meet at the Schaefer BMW dealership parking lot. I'll get there early to reserve some primo parking spaces. I will attempt to be near the front entrance.

After Cars and Coffee, we'll go to Freeman Park in Carolina Beach (20 mins from Wilmington) and spend the day on the beach. You ARE permitted to drive on the beach here (must purchase a day pass...$22 I think) and you can stay as long as you'd like. I'm thinking we can spend the afternoon here...swim....fish....sunbathe....whatever floats your boat.

Then, I'm thinking we can round out the day eating dinner at Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn, a Wilmington staple serving really, really tasty burritos, tacos, etc.

The schedule would look like this:

  • 9 AM to 11 AM -- Cars & Coffee (then convoy to Freeman Park)
  • 12 PM to 4 PM -- Freeman Park Beach Time / Free Time (then convoy to dinner)
  • 5 PM to 7 PM -- Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn Farewell Dinner

You are, of course, welcome to do your own thing. This will be family/dog friendly, so bring the kids if you got 'em!

Feel free to post below or PM me with any questions. Please submit an RSVP in a message and I'll add you to the list of attendees.

Hope to see you all soon!

Attending:
1 - Hans3T........
2 - chad

Chad...take this as you will....I asked the Ranger the exact same question. She kinda looked over her shoulder and said "So long as you are actively fishing, you are welcome to stay out all night". Take that as you will. I'm sure the official "rules" are on the Freeman Park website.

Carolina Beach is the only other beach I know of that you can drive on in Wilmington. I think you can camp there, but its much smaller and not as nice IMO.

Location of Cars and Coffee has been changed to Schaeffer BMW. Only a few mins from Chilis.

:bump:

We're 6 days from the event in Wilmington. Can anyone who is planning on attending please post and RSVP. I would like a head count. The turnout thus far is not looking so good...which may force a cancellation/alteration of plans.

For all intensive purposes, the formal event is cancelled.

Hans, sorry to hear that. Thanks for giving it a go - if I was anywhere close, I would've joined you.

I'm disappointed for sure. The NC Hummer Group on Facebook has a lot of members. No response there either.
Chad is still coming with a friend of his and we'll make the best of it! I was hoping to show off some Hummers and I guess a pair will have to do.

I'm overseas otherwise I would have come. I think the problem lies in the different interests of the members. Some are the typical chrome fiends, of which most aren't even in NC, let alone the US. Other are hardcore wheelers. Others are more into the social side. Then there are some simple trail riders. It's hard to please everyone.

Yea it was a good chance for everyone to et together then we could make plans on some trail rides or something. Would be cool to put some faces behind these screen names.
