Just got a 2008 and believe its the X because it's all the time 4w drive. It didn't come with the manual and been looking online to figure out how to go into 4lo. The other day got a little stuck and when i tried to turn it on by just pressing the button it just kept blinking??? I've tried loking online but not having any luck whats so ever.... I've had 4wheel drive in the past but old school locking hubs=)

To put it in 4 Low-Lock i usually put the shifter in Neutral and it engages in 2-3 secs, same deal to go back to 4 Hi-Lock...and to go from 4 Hi To 4 Hi Lock I usually engage it when I'm in drive and going about 5 miles and hour.

As well all H3 are full time 4x4...the to know if you have an X you should have some huge sort of cool looking tire cover the from grill should be the hummer's body color and have a chrome brush guard

Thanks man for the info. When I bought her she had different tires on her so no back cover. I assumed it was the X by the add on's and also that it showed or stayed in 4wheel all the time and only had an 4hi/4lo to switch out of. I thought when i was reading online the base model wasn't 4wheel all the time?

All H3s are full-time 4wd and have three modes:
4HI-street (varies the torque output between front and rear)
4HI-lock (locks the output to 50/50 split in high range)
4LO-lock (locks the output to 50/50 split in low range)
Changing modes works best with the trans in neutral and the vehicle stopped. The blinking light indicates that the t-case is in between modes, and it should go solid once you are fully engaged.
The H3X is nothing more than an appearance package...basically a "pimped-out" H3. They come from the factory with 17" chrome wheels, square-tube faux brushguard, rigid spare tire cover, and they almost always have chrome door handles, leather, navigation, sunroof, etc. Most H3X's arenot equipped with the Adventure Package but, if you have an additional button on the cluster for a rear locker, then you also have the Adv. Pak. In addition to the rear locker, the Adv. Pak option also gives you a lower (4:1) low-range for off-road crawling and specially-valved shocks.

The 4 wheel drive is always on in 4hi, rear wheels 60% and front wheels 40%. and when locked in 4hi its 50/50. When I shift into 4lo, I come to a complete stop, put into nuetral and then hit 4lo. And to take it out of 4lo, I do the same. I think its bad to be rollin when switchin into 4lo not in 4hi.

P 2-27 will answer all your questions. I will note, that contrary to what was stated above, ideally you DO want to be moving going in and out of 4 LO, but no more than about 3mph.

I just yank a lever. At this point nothing happens, and I belatedly realize I forgot to lock in the hubs when I aired down

That's when you have to climb out on to the hood and try to reach down to the hubs because of the mud you are stuck in. BTDT

Amen to that. If there's one huge downfall of the H3...its the electronic b.s. Something to be said for a good ole fashion lever.

Yeah, when I bought my truck I had someone look at it and they made the comment to the effect of "They still make those?! I didn't think those have been around since the '60s!" I have manual locks too....way old school.

Well, that's different. Reaching over to crank down a passenger window at 70mph is a bit risky, so you could call electric windows a safety issue

I experienced the same issue trying to figure out how to get it in 4-LO a couple weeks back. I actually got stuck for the first time in the hummer. I eventually got out after a long time maneuvering in the standard 4-HI. What y'all are telling me is that all i had to do was place the car in neutral and wait 2-3 seconds for the LO gears to engage?

I have quite a bit of experience doing it but it's a long way from one side of a K5 to the other.
I think my newest purchase is working great. Grab the t case level and put it in 2 hi 4 hi 4 lo. If I want to roll down the passenger window I have to slide over into the center of the vehicle and crank the lever. No stability control. It does have abs and that's enough.
Has air conditioning which is a step up from the 91 2500 I just sold with a 2002 5.3L engine. I'm surprised by how strong this 6.0L feels.
