I'm looking for any advice on a dash or video cam to mount in the hummer, I plan on doing some extreme mudding, offroading and possible rolling ! lol that will be give me a excuse to buy a H1. Please help with advice and knowledge on this so I can make a purchase. Thanks T

Need recommendations for dash Cam or Video cam

I went from tape to digital on that in the last few years. I have used UW housings and designed mounts of different types to use in extreme outdoor conditions.
The digital video shoots still images at 30 frames per second to achieve what old frames per second equipment did on tape but with the ability to easily work with it in compression on computers and grab usable sharp still images.
Now it seems the Go-Pro camera with the accessories developed for it would be worth checking into and building a compact system from readily available inventory that would hold up to extreme conditions.

I use a ContourROAM...good balance of quality (1080 video, but no fancy bells and whistles) and price ($130 on Amazon right now). I did mount it to my dash and it sat too low to really capture good video. Plan on raising it at least 4" above the level of the dash otherwise your hood will take 1/4 of the screen. Since it uses a standard tripod mount, I've got various mounts on my truck and roof rack. One thing I haven't tried yet is a rare-earth magnet mount to the side of the truck, that'll be in place sometime this winter.

I would go with GoPro... I've been looking on it for some time and the quality beats the others like Contour, Drift, Fuji, Olympus and other. It is fairly cheap on got allot of available accessories for mounting and protection. I like that you can get the water-proof case and mount it outside of your rig... The only thing with the case is that your sound gets a bit disturbed. I used one on my helmet when I was snowboarding and the videos that I got were great...

But I would wait until the GoPro Hero3 will come out. Some time in mid November...

you will be amazed by the black edition!! just make sure you get a class 10 micro sd card! i recommend the sandisk ultra sd card, its great!

I know the head Developer from Kingston, he was in my wedding. I can see if he can get a extra one for you, I got all the cards,memory chips and computer stuff free from him.
