Nearly ended my Craigslist record....nearly (a diatribe)

I've been buying stuff off of Craigslist for a couple of years now and recently came very close to breaking my record for never being screwed. I've bought ALOT of stuff from all over the country and asked the sellers ship to me---this seems risky if you listen to how often people get screwed using CL. I attribute my long streak of success with CL to buying HUMMER parts, seems people are a notch above when it comes to HUMMER parts vs. dealing with people in general; don't get me wrong, I know there are all too many HUMMER people out there that'd screw you in a heartbeat, luckily I haven't met any of them.
Well, I finally talked to a guy in Colorado who had several cool HUMMER things I really wanted (I talk to almost everyone over the phone to get a feel for their attitude--you can learn alot in a short time this way), so I sent a couple of Pay Pal payments to buy the stuff and cover shipping. Very shortly after the wildfires in Colorado Springs got out of control and the guy didn't contact me to let me know what was going on--I was hoping him and his family were Ok, but it was several weeks before I heard from him, and that was only after I left a text and a phone message, to which he replied that said my stuff had been returned to his house twice, he was sorry and would take care of it. I'm pretty calm in waiting for my parts, so no big rush. I figure if you ask someone to go to the trouble of shipping your junk, you need to be patient with them. Well, after two and a half months, I decided I'd waitied enough and his communication was nil since I'd last asked for shipping status. I shot a text (they work better than email, trust me) and said I didn't think I was going to see my parts, please return my money. At this point, I figured it was going to be a write-off, he might send the money, more than likely not. Surprisingly he sent a text with a picture of my box and it's tracking number---the parts showed up less than a week later.
And that's how I came that close to ending my perfect record with Craigslist......

I've played it safe and only used Craigslist for local purchase. Glad this worked out for you

I have purchased around eight or ten things off Craigslist and had them shipped. So far, I have never had a single issue but I do personally know someone who has been screwed by a Craigslist deal twice. Only about 50% of the people I contact are willing to ship. I did have a transaction with a really upstanding and trusting lady in Florida. She sent the items free of charge via FedEx next day on Thursday and I received them Friday. She even said I didn't have to send payment until I received the items. That kind of trustworthy you don't see much in this day an age. I called her Friday to thank her and tell her I would mail out a money order the same day but she insisted I don't make a special trip and mail it Monday or Tuesdays. I was shocked, she said she wasn't worried. If only we had more people like this and less people that would take advantage of a person like that.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the guy who lived in Jacksonville driving thru and met me along the way. He dropped off my stuff and asked about payment--I told him I'd mailed a check (I don't normally ever do checks, this was my wife's doing), and it should be at his house when he got home. I told him I could write another check and cancel the first one, but he said don't worry about it he'd just let me know when he got the one in the mail.

My experience with everyone on CL and people on the forums has been overall great, I've met alot of really cool people with some neat stories.

Dude---that's one thing I can guarantee, the whole damn house could be blown away, but I'll still be able to run power from my generator to the sign on the only wall left standing. It'll be an eeery sight, a lone red HUMMER light in a swath of destruction! Think I'll chain the dirt bike to it just to be sure....

Yes, Twinmill is the master of Craiglist. I even have some hummerjunk at my house that he bought on Denver craigslist!
