Wheeling in the colorado COLD tubs:

I used to go around this feature, I could get started with the 3... but couldn't move up it. (typical, it's way steeper than it looks)

Now I walk up the steepest, loosest part without a spot & without a slip.

When i went to get the shocks that a guy had pulled from his JK (went to coilovers) the shop that had them gave me a free set of driveshafts too!

One of them is brand new, never seen the street.

Snapped a brake line a couple days ago... guess I needed those brake lines quicker than I thought!! :D (little too much flex for the stock lines.)

how often do you use the lockers?

For example on that climb you did in that video

I turn them on before I get to the climb every time.

Maybe once I'm more comfortable with the truck I'll risk running the hard stuff open, but I've seen a few guys flop on that feature because of slipping & getting off line, so I'm ok with being "risk free" for now.

I run other stuff open open, or just click in the rear to make them more interesting, but the high risk lines I just lock up for right away.

well... did some problem solving this week...

I had too short of swaybar links for the flex I was getting after the new shocks, which led to this:

and having too short of a brake line led to this:

The beauty of being right by the trail... if I'm not sure if something will work... one way to find out. First feature is 1/8 mi up the trail & you'll know quick if you've got something wrong.

SO... those two led me to this:

$140 later I had long enough end links for the front, and long enough brake lines (F&R).

SO, after shocks (free) end links ($20) and brake lines ($120) I've finally got more front end flex than the H3!

got long enough lines now, just need to find a way to route the ABS lines smarter I think, not fond of it being on it's own like this. I think I can run under the frame & then tie into the brake line.

Need to find a deal on rear end links & I'll do that next, should be able to gain about 6" of travel back there too.

Kind of funny going from the H3 which had more rear flex than front, to this, that has more front than rear right now. Changes how you approach things quite a bit.

This'll do for now though!

Oh man... just realized that I forgot the most effective mod of all of them.

Quite seriously THIS made a bigger difference than anything else I've done to it so far: (and no, it's not a "reach" issue:giggle:)

so what is the purpose of the wood block on the accelerator pedal?

Well, unlike any of the manual I've ever owned (I've owned one auto in my whole life & I go through carts like some folks go through socks!) The JK's gas pedal is WAY over to the right & WAY behind the brake. IF you hit the brake on a steep feature (too steep for the E brake to work effectively) I would have my heel on the edge of the brake pedal, and my toe would barely reach the gas... it was awkward as SH**. I decided to moc this up to figure out what I really wanted to do... and it worked well enough that I've just left it.

Next time I get ahold of some 1x material I'll remake it with less depth, but this works well as is. It made the JK MUCH more friendly to drive.

Next time you wheel with a JK 6 speed, watch how well they transition from moving to stopped & vice versa on difficult features. I've only seen a couple that do it well, maybe big feet... or an E brake that works better than mine?

It's funny how many of them are rolling all over the place... every time one of my buddies does I yell "2X4!!!!!"... just to razz them, as I just don't lose ground anymore with this setup.

Ahh - appreciate the explanation I wasn't sure what the intent was either.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny... I was searching for a solution, tons of threads with guys bichin about it, and one guy says... "I just put a chunk of 2x4 on the pedal"... people laughed, but he said it worked great... so I gave it a try!

Any time I wheel with jeep guys I let them look at it without explaining... that makes it fun.

You'd think after ~60 years they would get the ergonomics figured out!

One thing I always found weird about Jeep ergonomics (or lack there of) is that the driving position is off center! Is it just me or does anyone else notice that too? The wheel is offset to the left.

You been driving one of those eauropeean Jeeps lately? They're supposed to be on the left, not on the right:wink:

Just got back from a 900 mi trip in the JK, can't say I noticed it if it's still like that on the JK. Maybe just an older Jeep thing?
