This evening quickly delivered some very icy roads around here. On my way home I had the honor of pulling three different vehicles out of the ditch/snowbanks. It dawned on me that no one seems to ask "hey what kind of mileage do you get in that thing" as you are winching them out of a night of waiting for a rescue.

I am sure next week they will be barking at how much of the parking spot some H2 takes but tonight, as the gross weight and the rear locker worked in tandem to strap them out, there was a moment of appreciation.

My favorite quote of the night was from some college kid 10 hours into a 14 hour move across the midwest. Her compact car was packed to the roof with belongings. As I hooked up my winch mount to the front receiver she casually states not asks.... "oh, you've done this before"

I bought my wife a shirt that says "no one complains about the slobber when they're found" We have a SAR bloodhound, and the slobber is epic - but it's exactly the same thing; people remark (yep, we'll stick with that word) about the slobber.

I use my H3 for SAR - I get a lot of "I didn't realize how good they were" from my teammates, and from the folks I'm helping... and really that's it - people read the news and never critically ask "why the hate?"

I'd have taken his girlfriend and left him with that stupid mustang---God I hate mustangs more than I hate Jeeps but not as much as I hate Prius'

When I hook up those little cars with no attachment points, I let owner hook it up.

had an experience in BB pulling Toyota Siena, no recovery points front or back. I hooked up to front around frame (front bumper was damaged by snow bank and I was afraid to rip off his rear end) and ripped out half of frond end (there was a tree stump inside snow bank, and front bumper was on it). I hot tailed out of there really fast .

Yeah that is my one rule. Owner always hooks it up with direction it can not be the bumper or the axle. Then I double check what they did to make sure they know what an axle looks like... I also have them always just put it in neutral and let the HUMMER do the work. Even in situations where drive or reverse from their vehicle might assist the situation, I never want to have someone gun it at the wrong time and run into me etc.

Some actually have tiny hooks. Good luck getting a shackle through it. The two I've pulled it fit. Tried another and wouldn't fit. Told the guy I can't get you without damage. Didn't want the liability and he was a dick about it. I Left him there.

Some have hooks on the rear end others dont. Actually pulled out a liberty the other day that had cap for hooks. I let them hook up somewhere underneath I'm the front send was real gentle on the skinny petal. I you'd another guy (impala) that the way it was hooked up I could rip his rear bumper off. He said to go ahead so I pulled. Luckily no damage.

I'm all for helping, just not going to be liable and would have no prob saying no way. My civic has tie down hook in the rear that is also a jack point, only place I can think of that might work.

Not in the snow, my ex got her mustang pinched on the inside of the garage. Third time I couldn't get it out. Way before the Hummer. Called a tow truck, he hooked up and just about pulled the floor pan reinforcement out. Said he was sorry, but was a 3k bill to the tow company. Could have done that myself. Reason why I made the call

There are also some small eyelet hooks that screw into the frame of the car some just on the back some both front and rear

I pulled an x5 out two weekends ago and that was the first time I used one of the screw in hooks
