So I just got myself an iPad and I'm not sure where to begin. What are some great apps and uses you all are using and doing with it? So far I do love it

If you like to download videos, vdownload+. If you need to use Microsoft office files, QuickOffice. Spyglass is just plain cool. Free wi-fi might help you find wi-fi networks. Scanner+ is a Police scanner. iheartradio gives you most radio stations.

I looked around and found a folder type cover at Staples that is rubberized and offers some protection but good access.
Then there are the more extreme but get bigger. Lifeproof I thought is the best of those and actually protects the ports and supposedly is submersible. However they get large and are not easy to install and reinstal.

Google Earth and sky both, Google maps will navigate and show you google earth images as you drive and street level which is sort of scary invasive.
I also am currently exploring MotionXHDGPS Drive it navigates where the not so great quads in MotionX GPS HD only shows rumb line and great circle nav. Even a Hummer can't do that.

Local weather apps are nice as well as the Weather Channel. I like Intellicast radar that shows wind fields and details for my sailing.
I don't know how to tell you which one this is but it's a ipad user guide and it looks just like the settings menu and you can access it thru a screen app icon.
You can scroll thru those apps and find the one with an icon that looks like that.

There are something like 750,000 apps!!
Tethering to a laptop is nice
or in my case I have a booster hopefully coming late today for my Iphone 5 and I can tether that to my ipad4 since at this time there is no 4G LTE other than the cradle style that would work with the ipad. That is for my offroad navigation more that anything.
The ipad is faster connection than my iphone 5 which is already fast.
The ipad 4 is about the same on ATT LTE as it is on my wifi.
20.85 down on one test and 6.28 up no lag there.
another fun app is speed test. I'm using one by OOKLA. from speedtest.net
it goes on forever with these apps...........
Have fun. I love mine.

I'v got weather bug elite which is a nice weather app, and I'v found Star Walk which is the best sky and star app I'v seen, it even plays cool background space music while you look at the sky :)

Can you explain your tetherering a little bit more, I use to tether my droid to my laptop but I didnt think apple products allowed tethering, I have the ipad 4 and iphone 4S, can I tether the phone to the ipad and if so how?

Just use HOTSPOT on either device and connect. I use my Iphone5 in a Wilson booster cradle with external antenna specifically for the ATT 4G LTE and use hotspot to connect the ipad to the phone to take advantage of the booster in remote areas. So far I think that is working.
A laptop can connect to either device using wi-fi and have internet access.

Yeah, I'm just to cheap to pay extra for the hotspot. I have verizon and its around $25 a month to use it. I thought there might of been another way that wouldnt cost anything. You can tether Droids for free but you have to use a cable.

If you jailbreak it I think there is a way to use the hotspot for one payment. But I could be wrong

I had tethering but when I got the ipad they moved us to a "bucket" data plan my wife and I share and with 4GB, the hotspot is included and I dropped the tethering feature as it was no longer needed. Ended up paying less than I was.

You can also load the free PDAnet app to your phone and create your own hotspot for free. The app works great for tablets.

I just looked for pdanet app and couldn't find it. Are we talking Apples or oranges. I see you have a droid so it looks like that's not offered for apples.

While we are sort of the subject, you can access a more accurate measure of you signal strength by following the instructions on this link.
I used it to check the Wilson Booster cradle and went from a -100 to -82 sitting in my driveway. I'm hoping this will be enough to keep me in touch in remote areas or at least better that before so I can keep maps alive.
