Everyone here who has bought fluids for their vehicles knows what I'm talking about. Today I bought 5 quarts of GM Synthetic Manual Transmission Lubricant (aka Castrol Syntorq LT - part number 12346190) for the NV4500, 4 quarts of Redline MTL for the NP205, and 4 quarts of Redline 75-90 for the 14 bolt. Luckily, Todd had 4 quarts of Mobil 1 75-90 collecting dust, so I used that for the D60 (cheap-azz Coastal 80-90 would've been fine for the front axle, but this was free-ish :)).

Anyway, yeah, you can imagine what I spent on fluids today

That's why I try and do my work in Todd's garage - I'm always a quart short and "borrow" one from his stock.

I figured I would get a few entertaining responses

The biggest hit was the synthetic manual transmission lube, which is made by Castrol. The NV4500 has carbon fiber composite synchros, which work great for ease of shifting, but are picky about fluid. On top of that, they run HOT in OD which demands a lube that tolerates heat well. There are numerous oils that "work" in the NV4500, but the overall consensus seemed to be that the OE factory fill gives the best shift quality and least heat buildup. Castrol only sells it in bulk drums; apparently it was decided that only GM and Dodge dealers would be licensed to sell it in quart containers. So, you get screwed. My cost on it was $21.99 a quart, which granted is about the same as Royal Purple gear lube (which is overpriced IMO), but much more per quart than the Redline MTL and 75-90 diff oil I bought. It kinda pisses you off when you don't have any options and have to fork out whatever a stealer wants :grr:.
