Hummers Don't Like Car Wash

Ok so I take my 06 H3 through the car wash today. As I'm pulling out the end the dash lights up Service 4WD. So I pull over and shift through Hi loc and Low loc, no problem. Then I put it in low loc and try to engage the rear locker. It just blinks, it won't engage. I crawl under the truck and check the connection plug looks fine. I unplug it spray it with some electrical cleaner and re connect it. Still nothing, won't engage. So I drive to the dealer, they plug it in and all it tells us is failure rear locker. So the stealership says we can figure it out just bring it in Monday. Anyone have any ideas before I blow cash on this? Thank you in advance.............:)

Yeah I'm hoping that it drying out will fix it. It's been so wet here in Michigan this week and it looks like rain tomorrow. If it doesn't solve the problem I guess I'll follow the wiring from the rear to wherever up front looking for a bad spot. Do you know if the locker requires 12 volts to engage it? Maybe a bypass would tell me if it's an enternal issue in the diff?

Don't over read the problem. It could just be coincidence about the car wash. Also sometimes my low lock doesn't always engage immediately, I have to drive forward some before it stops blinking & engages.

Well I just went out and tried it again. At start up I didn't see the service 4wd scroll across the dash so I shifted into neutral and hit the low lock button and then the diff lock and bang solid light. stayed engaged with no service message! I guess its safe to say I have a bad connection and water is the problem factor. Funny though, I have ran it through many car washes without a problem. Thank you Gents!

I have an H3 owner here in my town that was having crazy electrical gremlins and dash lights. It turned out to be squirrels! No joke...they were chewing on the wiring. Google it....apparently GM wiring tastes like rodent candy. His evap system was totally munched.

Mom and Dad had (still have in fact) a Tracker that mice ate engine wiring and started a fire. If Dad wasn't as fast as an Olympic sprinter getting the water hose, it would have been a very spectacular fireball. Must be an Indiana thing. We have super rodents!

You ladies and your car washes. My T is lucky to get washed once a year. Look at all the problems that it causes! Like I have said before, washing your rigs is bad for your rig! Preserve it by not washing your rigs! Right Alrock? :D

As someone commented on the dirt on my dash from the spotting of Alexis, it's earned. And will only get dirty again. What's the point? And plus my daughter likes writing in the dirt. Go figure

It's good to know that someone shares my views on this topic. Why wash your truck if it's it's just going to get dirty again within minutes? Plus it ain't manly to look blingy and shiny. I leave that to my wife, plus it ain't a body part after all!

We've always kept it a rule or understanding the blingy **** is Twins deal, right? Kinda the H4O code, right? Jk. I get my truck valeted at high end places, the people look at me weird. The valets, say, right on. I'm with them.

To be honest I really think your right! My Hummer is a mud magnet! It's Black and I cannot keep it clean. I do live in to country so critters could be the blame. Also while I was under it I noticed a sticker on my T Case talking about adding like 1.2 liters of fluid through the speed-o sensor hole after filling it the normal way. I guess I better do that tomorrow.

As I am a man true to my word, I crawled back under the 06 today to change the T Case fluid. I will not say what fluid I used because I read the thread all about it and don't want anything to do with that one. But, like I said I have a sticker on my T Case that says fill to top and then add 250ml in through the speedo sensor hole. Anyway I drained the T Case and wow! I never seen transfer case fluid this nasty! It was like brown water! Guess I'll be keeping an eye on this one. For those of you that have a 06 and have to fill through the speedo hole I have a easy tool for removing the speedo sensor. 3/4 combo wrench fits perfect. I do have a question about this locker in my 06 Adventure, is this thing a real locker compared to my days of old Detroit Lockers I had in my old 1 ton? Or will these things slip if enough force is put on it?

hello everyone i am new bird on the block and i just recently purchased a h3 hummer like 4 or 5 weeks ago and my service 4wd light is giving me the blues. Not only does the service 4wd come on, it totally shuts my truck off when it appears.. which is very dangerous i might add. But i notice yesterday it only appears when i make left or right turns.. then the truck shuts off. My only solution is to take it back to the dealership. In which i have no clew how i will get it there being that it shuts off on every turn i make lol. smh any advice anyone????
