I am going to tray and put something together this spring/summer between H4O and CHO and invite an old friend in a Jeep Cherokee along.

We went there for about a half day on last years Blk Mnt run. All the trails we ran were very easy even though some were marked on their map as reds & blues. I rarely used 4Hlock & 4Lo once for a big hill climb. You will get some brush rake on the less used trails.

Do you think it's till a good place to get out and ride trails, see the scenery and camp? I knnow it's not a rock crawler's place. Ho w far away from there is Black Mountain?

I would go back as we saw very little of it last year. Scenery wise it was ok, alot more wide open areas than Blk Mnt. Camping is strictly primative, no facilities at all. Closest place for stores would be Pineville about 8-9mi from the north entrance & Middlesboro (bigger than Pineville, has wlly world ect) about 11-12 from the south entrance.

Harlan is about 20mi & both entrances to Blk Mnt are about 30mi from the north entrance. Don't let the videos you've seen of Blk Mnt scare you off, they have plenty of easy trails you just don't see videos of them.

Personally from the little time we spent @ Wilderness I like Blk Mnt better. The big plus for them is it's still free at this point but Blk Mnt isn't much.

No clue, we only spent about a half day driving around, did see several good sized ponds but don't know how well I'd trust the water on old coal mine land with active ones still in the area.

I'd be interested in say a 4 day trip out there. Arrive Thursday night and set up camp somewhere between Wilderness and Harlan. Spend Friday at Wilderness and Saturday at Harlan, heading back Sunday.
