It is time to start planning the second annual Sleeping Princess trail run. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out the trail report from last years run http://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/for...n-pics-and-videos&highlight=sleeping+princess.
We decided to do this run in early November because it is just too hot in the summer and November has less chance of rain than the spring. Sleeping Princess gets very little rain, but the Vee notch is hard enough without water flowing in the creek. We are considering either November 2nd or November 9th. I emailed the Bullhead City Offroad club that maintains the trail to see if they knew of any conflicts, like large groups that might tie up the trail and hold us up . They didn't know of any conflicts on those dates, but they said most of them would be at Parker Splash on the 9th. On the 2nd we might be able to get one of them to tag along and provide guidance. One other factor to consider is November 3rd is the date that most states except Arizona turn end daylight savings and the clocks back. That means that we will gain an hour of sleep on Saturday night (the 2nd) / Sunday morning (the 3rd), but the people heading into Arizona will loose the hour when they cross the boarder. Also, the hours of daylight are getting shorter fast so we'll get 10 hours and 43 minutes of day on the 2nd but only 10 hr and 30 minutes of daylight on the 9th. In addition, if we stay in Laughlin Nevada the sunrises (7:00 AM on the 2nd vs 6:07 AM on the 9th) and sets (5:44 PM on the 2nd vs 4:37 PM on the 9th) an hour and 7 minutes earlier, so we either start an hour earlier or we have less daylight to run the trail. So we would need to get up earlier on Pacific Time.
