H3 Satellite antenna modification question

Hey everyone, This question is why I joined, I was always lurking for info till I couldn't find an answer.

I've installed a rack and an RTT on my H3. I always try to go for the stock look because that's what I like. I installed an updated radio in my rig, and it was great until I installed the wind deflector on my rack. Now, the XM radio signal is spotty at best.

So the question is, Has anyone replaced or extended their OEM satellite antenna to gain a better vantage point for a signal? I'd really like to keep the factory connections without needing that stupid magnetic puck they provide in the kits.

My thoughts are to 3D print a riser from the seal to the base of the antenna to lift it higher or swap the antenna completely with something more modern and with better reception. The only issue I see with a complete swap is that the H3 antenna has three wires for Onstart, HD radio, and SAT; I think upgrading the antenna will create a new issue of cutting the Onstar and HD radio signals out. Do you have any thoughts? Ideas? Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Joe

I used the magnetic puck and attached it to a flat spot on my Gobi. It was not noticeable, and it was an easy fix.

Onstar does not work anymore so that's not an issue. It is based on 2G networks which were sunsetted by the cellular providers. Also, I don't think the H3 had HD radio capabilities and just uses the standard fender antenna for radio signals.

Alrock, I'm taking the puck into concideration again. I did find that the antenna mast on the OEM puck is removable. I'm curious if I can just increase that mast length, I agree the magnetic puck is easy, I was just wanting to avoid another wire running through firewall or weather seals.
