H1 code reader

I have a 2K H1 and I need a code reader. I purchased an Innova reader and I would not connect. I contacted Innova tech. support and they told me they do not connect to vehicles with a gross weight over 8K - even though the packaging says "all" diesels '96 and newer. Can someone please recommend a code reader?
