High torque and low speed. Sounds like this would be a great aftermarket item for off-roading when they perfect it. Goes to show that some of the best solutions do not come from tax breaks or government loans but true ingenuity with the potential for profit on the back side. In addition, on a larger scale this could remove the need for drive shafts, lockers and CV axles making the suspension and drive train of vehicle a whole new concept.

I saw that earlier. At this point it looks like an assist function is all it can perform but it is amazing what people can come up with.

Very cool, I read an article a couple of years ago, where volvo was developing wheel motors similar to this. I really like this idea, very practical and could almost be setup as a DIY kit that can be installed by any shadetree mechanic. American inginuity at its best. I wonder how much this offsets the wheels.
