Good Read Thread

Read a few good books lately (most of the reading gets done while waiting for teenager hockey and lacrosse games to start, or while waiting for dance class to end for my daughter), Anyway I'm always looking for a great book.

I've listed a few here that I think some of you would really enjoy.

Really enjoyed Public Enemies. A few year old, later made into a movie with Johnny Depp. It's a narrative of the Ma Barker, Bonnie and Clyde bad guys of the 30s compiled from all of the news stores and coverage from back then.

Lone Survivor is a very good book, those guys went through hell but they gave even more hell. Highly recommend it

If you enjoyed "Lone Survivor" you should read "Victory Point".

It tells the same story from a different point of view. It also tells how the U.S. Marines went after and completely fawked up Ahmad Shah's crew after Operation Red Wings went bad, and his prestige with the Taliban had grown.

I actually got to meet Chris Kyle in Dallas at the 4Wheel parts show and bought an autographed copy for my Dad. I of course will read it when I get back to the states.

I have read 1,3 and 5 on Jeff's list. All were good. Guess I will have to look up Victory Point.

Wow, I just realized that I haven't done any kind of fun reading for the last five years. Pretty much everything has been computer tech books.

For you geeks out there, I highly recommend the Myst books. The Miller brothers did a great job on the back story to the number one selling PC game. Also, The Planiverse for those that liked Flatland was a great read.

All books by Richard Marcinko (read in order). Also "The last true story I'll ever tell" by John Crawford. "One mans wilderness- an alaskan odyssey" by Sam Keith. "Into thin air" and "Into the wild" by Jon Krakauer.

I really enjoyed reading "No easy day".

Other than that, I'm very much in the same boat as CBetts..... Mostly work techie stuff such as "Introduction to C++" and "Fighting and defeating APT attackers in the enterprise"
