Gear Review: 1 year with the 40" offroadledbars.com bar

As some of you may have seen on my Instagram I am having some issues with the finish quality of both products I have installed on my rig from this seller.

if you want the long story :link:

Short story:

Don't be confused, the light output of these lights are fine, but my 40" light bar started to look like crap after the second time I used it:

I did contact the seller after the 40" started to look like that, but he offered to return only $50 or a pair of 4" round LED lights (after I had a surprise $50 shipping bill upon delivery).

But low and behold the finish on those lights didn't even last 10 months:

I am sure there are some on here that have had great results from this company but I needed to say something as there have been a lot of group buys (and to my knowledge they haven't bothered to become a site sponsor).

Interesting read, thanks for sharing.

I know I paid a premium for my Rigid Lights, especially vs. what's available now. Heck, two years ago (March 2012) when I got my lights there weren't many of the more affordable options out there so Rigid was almost a default choice. It's worked out for me so far. The longest that I've had my lights on straight was four hours straight and I've not had any ill effects; no peeling or discoloration. Maybe a tiny bit of fading but they've sat in the AZ sun for 70% of the time. Two years in and they look great. Some of the aftermarket clamps have faded to purple but that doesn't bother me.

To clarify: you are correct, your LED vendor did not contact us to become a site sponsor. We do allow members to bring in limited group buys without that vendor becoming a site sponsor, though "limited" is the key word. I have had no problem with the past group buys by them.

I know that they are a new company and I wonder if that could of played a roll.. Hmmm glad u have posted this! I have not had any issues with the company at all.. Excellent communication so far.. I would like to see pics of the light bar just to see the difference since I'm now running the 40 as well!!

Man I hate this happened to you bubba and I hope it's an isolated incident.. They are one of my sponsors for my truck build and have been really good to me.. As they grow as a business their quality and care get better.. And ALROCK if OLB need to join in as a sponsor I will work with them in getting that done.. I personally don't want to step on anyone's toes and I don't want any confrontation on product quality because y'all are like family to me... I will say that from what I've seen in there product compared to other companies I've seen it's an excellent t product.. This hot TExas sun will put them to the test..

I personally see the difference in quality and I'm sure everyone else sees it between rigid and xyz companies also. The led market got huge and quite frankly it's a good thing just for more options. With that said as these companies have been out for a while now the reason I question rigids cost difference is less and less as time goes by.

I run rigids and so does my brother and people throw lumen numbers out there like its nothing and they claim for extreme quality as well. They constantly say it's as good as rigid or better but I think in 10 years from now all the non rigids will be in the garbage.

Will I ever spend full price on a 40in rigid bar? Probably not due to cost but will probably look for a used deal or buy a cheap non rigid bar, expect nothing and replace it or paint it as time goes by.

That's an excellent point and I'm the same way.. I feel a fresh coat of paint every few years isn't a big deal as long as the lights still function.. I personally expect that out of any light because I know how ruff we are on these things expecially in these hot weather areas or the areas with a lot of salt in the air...

I've been using my 40" LED bar (which is a Rigid Industries Chinese Knockoff) for 7 months now, lots of wheeling runs since then (probably 15 times) and each time I put the LEDs for atleast 2 hours of use. No discoloration in the body/mounting hardware (I park the car in 115+ weather ATM) and so far no issues. I've noticed that even after an hour of operation, the fins on the body barely gets hot, maybe just warm (at 100* ambient), while a friend of mine who has a cheaper Chinese LED gets them so hot you can't hold the body.
The product is so good (exactly as advertised) that I bought several more for my work too.

i had some IPF 9000 sport lights on my roof and they rusted out after a couple of years and the supper didn't want to know about it.

i could offer more insight to what they said the reason was, but it would require digging about the painful past.

I will test out my import bars for now, just having a hard time justifying shelling out RIGID kind of money for a product that will likely end up broken due to heavy impact, or stolen.

Nothing wrong with inexpensive solutions. Some work, some don't. I've tried a bunch and not all were successes. Heck, that's sometimes why I do stupid **** - figure out if it worked for me and share it with y'all.

And sorry, I forgot to take pics today.

Here are the Rigids at 27 months. All I did was wipe them with glass cleaner since they haven't seen a car wash in a while. There's some waterspotting in the powdercoat from past washes - hard water here and they don't get any attention at the car wash. The discoloration in the crevices is dirt.
