Flooding in my area, gald I have a snorkel

Hey guys,

I just finished installing a DIY snorkel on my T not that long ago, and its times like this that remind me why I drive such a beast!

Just South of my where my brother lives there is some massive flooding going on in my province, see images below:


creeks that used to be two inches deep and 15 feet wide are now growing to 15 feet deep and 450 feet wide washing out roads, buildings etc.

The zoo had to evacuate the lions and tigers as their enclosure is right near the river, they have been taken to the court house and been put into the jail cells there... would be very interesting to see!

Long story short I will be leaving this after noon to take down supplies for him and help him and anyone else that is in need!

Yes our Hummers are usually adventure mobiles, but at times like these they can be very vitial to getting to safety, supplies, even possibly saving a life!

I have a H2 and want a snorkel but think i have to make one... Any advice?

Holy Smokes! In flood like that the snorkel will not help. Even do it is very admirable of you to drive around in flood be very careful not to get in to the sink hole. Good luck to you out there and try to stay safe

I am only taking the approved roads, however there can be up to 3 ft in the lower areas of these roads

I'll keep my CB monitoring the emergency channel and will help if I hear of anything in my area, I don't plan to use the snorkel to test it out, its more a last line of defense.

Reading and looking at all the videos I have to give it to Canadians:can:. Looks like everyone are in the good mood, smiling and having a good time, animals are saved in the court house jail... Here in US you will see a panic, everyone a crying, crime rate goes up, goverment comes over and confiscates everyone guns, jails are full of innocent civilian that did not wanted to give their guns away... It's like end of the world...

I've been fortunate enough to wheel with some of the Albertans out of the CHC and can testify to their great attitudes. My wife and I came back with a new phrase that everyone in Calgary uses "no worries, eh?" and that really sums it up.
Plus these guys can get a rip roaring bonfire going in 5 minutes or less and that's not using pre-cut firewood (sorry Neo!)! The HUMMER crowd I ran with usually had a chainsaw and bow saws on every truck, along with a sharp ax. Yeah, the city slicker in me stood out fast---you're not from around here, are you? But they were a great crowd no less.

As for the flooding, my in-laws in Calgary have been talking about it, both the Kananaskis and part of the trans Canada going to Waiporous where we wheeled is under water as you're saying in this post. The flooding sucks, hope everybody out there comes out on top---but the wheeling is going to be a great muddy blast!

I've seen some pics of those floods - be safe. Also remember the snorkel and intake are only one part of the equation. Water can get into the breather tubes as well as the passenger footwell where the BCM is located. I've had the footwell get damp from the passenger door bottom being underwater for thirty seconds. I've also put water into the breathers by having a wave hit a inch or so up on the hood.

So got here safe and sound, the flooding is unreal, but in the higher elevation parts of town it just seems damp... Very weird how drastically different the conditions are!

Passed Andy truck rafter army truck our whole way here (approx 1500 troops) on there way down to help the local barracks...


One thing for certain I sure hope that the truck they were in were for local disaster relief... They were run down POS' that I would not want to even think about sending our guys to war in...

There were a few men on the outside their tanks, who seemed to see the T burn by at least.

Got to my bro's place and there were just a few spots that were over saturated so we dug some drainage and all was good!

I will post a video of the river soon to show you guys how over flooded it really is!

I checked over on CHC to see how our buddies up north are doing---looks like many areas around Calgary are f%(ked, with High River being a total write-off--the entire town of 13,000 is under water. We've driven all over these areas as that's where my wife grew up.
Sugarphreak lives in Calgary with his 3T (and wife) and is trying to help his neighbors keep their basements from flooding, his last post says he's had his generator running 23 hours to keep the sump pumps going.
Also looks like one of the H2 guys has been out delivering some supplies and food to the road crews and other folks as they deal with this--good on them.
Man, that place is a mess, please keep all of our Canadian friends in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this. Fortunately my in-laws are in an area that hasn't been affected and they don't have to go out and deal with the craziness.

We found a video posted on You-Tube that looks like one of the H1 owners may have to dry his truck out some. You may want to turn the volume off as the dumb broad talking calls it a Jeep and makes some other profound statements.
